Help Spend $25k On This Truck

Here is what I want:
  • Used or New 2004 or 2005 F-150 with 4x4 (preferrably the FX-4 package) 5.4 or 4.6 (if there is a huge price difference, prefer the 5.4) Color: Black
  • 4" lift or more, 35in tires or more
  • All these small additions I realize will probably cost me more than what I want to pay, but will most likely do anyways cause I'm an idiot
  • Dual Exhaust and hopefully Smoke Stack style exhaust (like a big rig, coming out of the bed near the rear window)
I see 30k as a lot of money. I hope I can afford at least the truck stock with that amount. The rest of the additions I am looking to add immediately as well.

This is not an uncertainty, I will buy a meaty truck with a nice lift and tires to go with it within the next 2 months. Those are just the basics, however. I would appreciate it if you all would help direct me on where to spend this money and if it costs more, how much more (roughly, cause I know you don't know everything either)? I am looking to spend 25-30k on this truck, I really don't want to spend anymore than 25, but I'm willing. I currently own a 2002 F-150 5.4L with 105,000 miles on it. I am not getting rid of it, so trade-in is not a question.

I got in a car wreck and my insurance is about to skyrocket, so if anyone has any experience or advice/knowledge to share about whats going to happen to me, I'm all ears. It was my fault, and I'm young, go figure.

Here is a post about the car wreck and where the money is coming from.

Dang it! I was hoping this was a thread about someone who already had a truck and wanted to spend $25K on MODS. Now THAT would have been a good thread.

As it is, you are looking at the typical tradeoffs that all folks are. Want to save money? Start with a used truck (let someone else take the depreciation hit.) It doesn't matter what the original buyer paid for it, compare with the price you can get new vehicles for now (at a maximum, the Ford employee price) and start negotiating down from there. Since a lift and tires are a must for you, price those at local shops (unless you are doing the work.) Once you have those mods done, let the board know what you have left and we'll help you spend it.

I have a lot of dirt-cheap mods on my truck's website (and some not so cheap ones too.) Click picture below and have at it.

Get yourself an XLT regular cab and do it up!

25-30 grand is pushin it for an fx4 and thats just the truck. are you looking for a screw or a scab?? id say either buy a new xlt with a nice set of options or a used fx4. you'll save enough money to install a lift and whatever else you want.

I am looking for an Supercab. I know, pushing it. But lets just say this, $25-30,000 for:
-Used 2004 Supercab Black Fx4 5.4L.
I just know I will end up putting too much $ into this thing and probably far surpassing the 30k limit. But is wishing for this truck at only $30,000 or less unrealistic?

By the way, wonderful site, many mods to your truck I can see myself making in time...I am looking for the same truck Myst has, but black +FX4 package.

You shouldn't have a problem finding a used '04 FX4 for around 25K. You could get a Screw for 25K so you could probably find a Scab for about 23K. My truck had 9K on it and I bought it for 26K back in march and it's a screw. We got a damn good deal on that and that was about 4 months ago. You should have no problem finding a truck to meet your needs. good luck.
Mysts truck is an FX4

Holy $*(@$!

Those are great prices, I think I've just secured my dream truck. Sal has a truck very close to what I want to achieve, if I find one for that price, you can guarantee I will be another F-150 enthusiast who will take great pride in my truck for all to see. I might even opt for a supercrew now.

Below is eventually what I want my truck to become. I plan to immediately add a dvd player (this caused my car accident, I was looking for the car adapter, and if I don't need that, maybe I won't have an accident :P), maybe one of the Pioneer AVN's or the new Eclipse one's, price is really not an object when it comes to these small additions.

This truck below is going for $25,100 on ebay right now, but it's been through 20 bids, so who knows what the closing bid will be, let's watch (Keep in mind, this has all the work already done to it! How cheap.)

Incredible, $567.85 per month for car insurance (quote, due to my car accident). Unbelieveable, like 7k/year. I know people who pay like 800 for them and their wife on 2 cars! Is this outrageous to any of you? Any way to get this down?

$567.85 per month extremely high? Has anyone even heard of those prices, I am willing to bet it was a miscalculation, that's almost robbery. That will be a new truck in a few years. (7k/year)

My current truck. I am getting a newer one, not very happy with this, it's a great truck, just not fast enough (even with a 5.4), and it has a BIG range in the gas peddle where you feel no power gain at higher speeds, I hope the newer trucks aren't like this. I like responsiveness like everyone else.

If you have a 2wd 5.4L now and think it is slow, and FX4 stock will feel slower, and 35's will be pitiful.

Yes, that's outrageous. Maybe a new truck is not what you need to be looking for. Just my $0.02.
