I got SCrewed...

...but I'm happy about it

I picked up the new rig last night; a blue/beige 2005 F150 4x4 Lariat SuperCrew. Unfortunately in all the excitement with running to the bank after work and then to the dealership I got down there with little time to spare before they closed. I didn't do a walkthrough, got home after dark, and didn't
have much time before work today, but I did spot a couple of minor problems already. So I'm making a list of some things wrong that I've noticed to give my saleman a call about. He was excellent so far; but now the real test :

**No keycode card in my owner's manual binder.
**No key fobs. (Single driverside keylock my only way in right now)
**Black plastic thing under back seat driver side-- nice 4 inch scrape/goudge in its front (Is it just to hold the seat up or does it do anything? open? get out of the way if I flip the seats up?)
**Chrome around console shifter-- scratched (Looks like fine scalloping at the front end. back half doesn't have it. I don't think it's intended. Anyone else have this *design*?)
**Seat tracks well lubed-- too well I think (Is there supposed to be gobs just sitting in the rails or should it be a bit neater?)
**Rattling noisy headboard over bumpy road (Noise seems to come from around the interior dome. I have the Moonroof, but the headboard seems loose even alowing for the slider, or maybe the cables going to the light are just loose and bouncing around up there. Just a little noisy/distracting)
**Got a dealer emblem right below the F150 badge on the tailgate (I don't mind advertising because the salesman was one of the best I'd ever dealt with, but ask me where I want it. I don't want it on the paint; I was thinking it would look okay at bottom corner of the back window. Need them to move it.)

Anyone have any problems similar to the headboard noise? If so, was it resolved easily? The chrome I'd like replaced as it's right their in the open. The goudge is pretty out of sight, but still it's a new vehicle. Lube might be necessary, but I can just picture it gathering all sorts of debris.

Also was wondering if I buy any Ford branded accessories are they covered under the factory warranty? I've been thinking about a bug shield after my drive into work this morning and the summer construction and big trucks dropping ****. Had one before and better than keeping the bugs off was keeping the stones away from the windshield as well. Ford makes a chrome one-- a little pricey but well worth it, if it would fall under their warranty.

Anyway not yet sure how the sig works here, but I figured out the forums and threw some pics up that I took this evening. Enjoy...

The black plastic thing is the subwoofer; your truck must have the Audiophile option.

Not sure about the lube on the seat tracks.

There's a TSB on the headliner rattle, involves installing foam shims between the headliner and the roof panel. Takes like 10 minutes to do.

I don't think the accessories fall under the factory warranty, but I think they're covered for 12/12. I've got the smoked low profile Ford piece, I like it.

Congrats on the new truck. Hopefully the dealer will get everything squared away for you. In the meantime though, have a nanner.

Good lookin' truck!!

The items you describe seem pretty minor, and solveable. Best of luck.

Give Molly a scratch behind the ears for me.

Thanks guys. God bless this site and its members. You are one heck of a friendly, helpful, knowledgeable bunch

aYup, everything is pretty minor and I am very happy with my truck. Was coming home through torrential downpours this afternoon and 4-6" of water in spots and had a blast doing it.

I did get the audiophile option. Figured I'd never blow my speakers if they were designed for loud. Hrrmm though... I was expecting under the seats to be clear so I could flip the back seats up and give the floor space to the dogs. Do the seat backs flip down at all? I might just have to bite the bullet, get a thick cover and give them the back seat when they ride.

How's the TSB thing work? I tried to find it at NHTSA and then at Ford Motorcraft so I could just print it and show the dealership, but no dice. Motorcraft is by subsciption only it seems and I even searched both 2004 and 2005 at NHTSA but didn't find any mention of it. I'm assuming the dealer will have access to Motorcraft and find it if I tell them about it...

The seat track lube is not a biggie, just an irritation. IMHO the prep guys should have been neater. I already wiped a blob off the side of the console this morning and thats when I looked at the seat tracks. So long as it doesn't need to be on that thick I'll just wipe off the excess myself. The goudge on the subwoofer is not that noticeable at all, but I don't think it should be there at all since it is a new car. The chrome is definitely noticeable to me though. I didn't call the sales guy this morning about this stuff because I wanted to just get him once with everything I see after a thorough inspection, and not keep calling back with one thing at a time.

See I already thought of another thing I didn't mention before that I saw checking the truck out today. The little foam pieces glued onto the seat metal that the jack attaches to looks perfect and fits exactly between the jack and the metal on the outside piece. The inside metal only has one piece of foam and this up so high and on a wierd angle that the jack doesn't hit it and so is positioned right against the metal of the seat. Am I just being overly nitpicky with this and the goudge or should I mention these things? I feel like I'm being ****, but I did just drop a sizeable chunk of cash on this truck. Any other things that were problems or missing for you guys that I should check out on mine? I also got some mystery stuff with my truck:

**a plastic bag with two warranty (Ford and Tire) pamphlets I got also has two small envelopes with a brown circle on each and two (looks like black anodized) screws inside apiece.
**an unopened heat sealed clear plastic bag with what looks like some sort of wiring harness in it. I did get the tow package, but the two type of trailer plugs already seem to be wired up.
**whats the thing formed into inside of the top of the center console cabinet. I think CDs but it seems like it wouldn't fit six cases (or I did cram six in the plastic would get stressed and not hold any less than six ever after)

Appreciate it much if anyone can help me out with what this stuff is or answer any more of my questions. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I think the bag with wiring is for the trailer brake controller if you have one installed. (I got the bag as well)

In Canada any ford accessories purchased and installed on the truck before delivery are covered by the full warranty. (not shure about the USA)
This is actually stated in the accessories brochure.

I would have liked to have done that and had the accessory stuff put on before delivery, but I didn't really know what I'd want before I had the truck. Still don't as I'm sure next week it'll be something else.

I will still check with the dealership. So far these guys have been great. My thinking that if I have the dealer install Ford accessories then it would be warrantied just like any other Ford option. They told me if I get the remote starter and alarm installed it would be fully covered so why not other Ford branded accessories I figure. I'll ask about the alarm and starter again and if they tell me its covered, just do the other stuff at the same time.

So the wiring harness connectors already on the back only do lights and not brakes? Wonder why it doesn't ship completed?

just tell'em to run your VIN and they'll see a very obvious TSB about the headboard rattling on F-150's with power sunroofs.... mine goes in tomorrow to fix that exact same thing....although it took them over a month to get the part...

the globs of the lubrication sounds normal because it seems like I had the same thing going on with my truck. might want to ask just in case though--it won't hurt.

Congrats on the new truck. The back seats do not flip down at all. Just cover it and let the dogs ride in comfort.

hey, welcome- sweet truck... seat rail goo...i feel ya, got enough goo to lube up the truck, my bros tacoma, my other bros jeep, and my moms truck. literally. the space in your center console lid is designed to fit a Kleenex brand mini tissue dispenser- take a ride to your nearest wally world, in the checkout lines you should see some 5x6 by 1.5 inch boxes of tissue- .97 cent. slide right in there.
