2004 Dash Squeek

I have a squeek in the dash on my '04 that is driving me nuts. Sounds like it was coming from under the dash, been to the dealer 4 times, they even replaced the column, squeek is still there.

I have been systematically removing trim and taking drives, and I think I have narrowed the sound down to the steering column, near the steering wheel.

Has anybody else experienced this noise, and does anybody know of a fix?

I tried the search feature, and did not find anything, so if this has been previously addressed, I apologize in advance for a redundant post.

Thank you in advance.

Search under Clockspring, and also under ashtray, the two biggest near the steering noises.

There were a spate of guys having the clockspring in the column replaced before the first of the year.

The ashtray, belt switch is was very common awhile back, at least ten threads on it.
Good luck
Chris

Thanks!

My noise is definitely coming from the column area. The dealership I am dealing with seems to be very indifferent to my complaint, so I'm gonna take it elsewhere, and now, I'm also gonna be a little more educated on the problem!

I have the same thing in my 2005 Screw Lariat. Sounds like its in the steering column, although I have to be moving for it to squeak. Seems to be more prominent when turning wheel to left. Took it to dealer once and "problem could not be duplicated." I have to go back in next week for a couple other small issues and I'm taking the service guy driving to duplicate the squeak and the steering wheel vibration. We'll see what happens.

I have a squeek that sounds like the whole dash is shifting a lil bit, it creeks everynow and then. I did however have a rattle fixed from the shifter, rattles pi$$ me off more than anyhting else in my truck.

I had a problem similar to aforementioned issue. I had this rattle noise coming from cloumn/behind my radio area; drove me crazy thinking I have to have someone remove entire dash...... But one day, I removed things that were in my center console; especially pay attention to the area under your top cover. the rattle was gone. Somehow the rattle traveled via center console to the center dash area.

If you haven't solved it yet, the squeak might be coming from where the steering column passes through into the engine compartment. There is a rubber boot there and if you put a generous spraying of silicon it should help.
