Decent price?...

Sorry, I'm sure there are lots of threads like this, but I've just got to ask.
I drove this baby home a several weeks ago and it turns out they still have it on the lot. It's a FX4 screw with a 6" lift and 35" nitto tires. The MSRP is $48000. With the "employee pricing" and rebates, they are telling me $37899. The MSRP on the truck itself is $40k. Now, I'm not sure if this is decent/good/great or what. Help is appreciated. Here is a pic if you are curious.

And the original thread I started about it when I drove it:

Based on what I see, you are paying about $7,000 for upgrades. I don't really know the particulars, but I am sure that is probably top dollar for those upgrades and they could probably be done down the road for cheaper if you were to buy the truck in stock condition and take it to a local shop for install.

The price is a bit high. On the other hand if the truck doesn't have any problems so far you may be a bit less at risk with it than getting a new one. I would see if I could take them down to 34K, otherwise take my chances with a new one.

Sorry, I'm not quite understanding what you mean. This is a new truck. From what they are telling me (and I haven't seen the breakdown) I'm paying about $5k for the upgrades. I'm just not sure if this whole employee pricing thing is that much better than you can do normally...

Employee pricing is about 4% less than the X-plan price that you hear everyone touting. Although many people can negotiate a dealer to below X-plan price, I seriously doubt that you will negotiate the dealer to below this Family Plan price.

You are getting employee pricing on the truck, but not on the upgrades unfortunately.

The employee pricing is worth it and pretty darn hard to beat. Go to Fords website and price the truck out...of course without the wheels and lift...to get family plan pricing. On the higher end loaded trucks, FX4's and KR's 10K is about what you get off the MSRP.

Actaully, I was doing that exact thing as I was reading your response... Looks like with the $2500 rebate on the FX4, it's $9k off, so $31800. Adding maybe $4000 for the lift I would think that $36000 would be good for this truck. I guess I need to see how they break it down at the dealer. They are saying I'm getting the lift and such at their cost...

I am thinking a 40,000 msrp on a Fx4 screw is a little high. you should check fords web site to see if they are being acurate. if so I would say the prices have gone up some from 2004 to 2005. that price seems a little high. seems like thay must have fudged the numbers somehow. oh and if the msrp on the truck is 40,000 and it is 48,000 msrp after mods that means you are paying 8000 for the mods.

Just got a 2005 SC XLT 4 x 4 5.4 for 25.2K with all the rebates and stuff. MSRP was 33330. I did not not even argue with the guy. I just said "I'll take it!"

It has all the stuff I want, tow package, limited slip, etc. and nothing that I don't want...moonroof, FX4, etc.

It was built last month in Norfolk and had 9 miles on it. I am a happy camper! Just hope it stays as nice as it is now...

I agree with your thinking on the pricing....if indeed it is a LOADED FX4 retailing at 40K. 4K for all the goodies is a good start for negotiation. Good luck

Something to think about that might justify a few more bucks spent. Is the dealer going to cover the lift ect under factory warranty? If so, that's probably a decent deal. You could save a few bucks buying a comparable truck and doing everything yourself, but if you had suspension or other trouble down the line they may or may not cover it.

That's what it looks like indeed. How many miles on it ? Personally I wouldn't
pay more than $32. if the mileage is low enough. Tell 'em 32 out the door and
see what the crooks say. Did you cruise it at hwy speeds to check for vibes?

Don't forget about the $500 Home Depot cash. Do you qualify for the college grad plan? Check into it, it is also worth $500.

Nobody said you can't negotiate with the family plan.

Go out and see how much the lift tires and rims would cost. Get your price set and see if they will deal.
