Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has a true dual setup with no mufflers and a crossover. I have a Flowmaster si/do rear exit set up and it is just not what i had hoped for.
thanks for any help

Thanks for the replies guys. I am just trying to get something that can be heard around town and at low rpms so I don't have to get on it to hear the mufflers.
I had a 96 chevy with no mufflers and it sounded great. My last vehicle was a 2003 F150 with true duals and 15 glass packs and it sounded like this truck, more like rushing air than a deep burble.
I figured with all those cats that the truck would still be tolerable noise wise if I got that cross over. Anymore opinions? I would love to hear them.

When I was getting ready to install my MF SI/DO, I cut off the stock exhaust, and crancked 'er up just to check it out, and was very disappointed to hear that it was quiter with no mufflers, than my brother-in-law's Silverado with Flowmasters!
So I've been running around town with just the stock cats and no mufflers, and I don't care what anyone else on this forum says, it's no too loud. In fact, at idle and while cruising below 2800-3000 rpm, you can barely hear it! On the other hand, once I get on it
The decision is quite simple really. Once you've decided to upgrade your exhaust, cut the stock muffler off, and drive it around for a day or two. If you don't like it, you can install Flowmaster, Magnaflow, or whatever else floats your boat.
Just my 0.02!

I talked to muffler shop and he suggested just put a wye pipe where my si/do muffler is. He said it will bark a little. Your experience seems to show that with all those cats it will only make it a little louder. will see . I can't get in until next friday.
thanks agiain

so are you saying that i should have a muffler or am i missing something
I said that because there were so many cats that removing the muffler entirely only makes it a little louder

I did the same thing, and also was surprised how quite it was with no muffler or tailpipe. Did you go ahead and install the MF si/do (the same one i bought)or are you saying that you left if off?

just got back from the muffler shop. they took out the flowmaster super 40 that came with the system and put in a wye pipe.
Barely makes a difference. I wish i was brave enough to take at least 2 of those cats off.

what motor do you guys have, i took off my muffler on the factory single exhaust and put a piece of 2 1/2 straight pipe in and its very deep and loud, sounds better than a mustang. I have the 4.6, i have heard the 5.4 redesigned heads are very quiet no matter what you do, i dont think its the cats, its the heads themselves. I may actually put a flomaster on because it is actually to loud, especially at cruising speeds.

Here's a vid with my truck doing a burnout. Can hear the exhaust pretty well.

Not sure what I'm going to do with my new truck. It's too new to start any serious mods yet.
I ran without a muffler for awhile (Flowmasters fell off. Or atleast the hangers broke and I cut the rest with a hacksaw, long story. Flowmaster sucks) and it was pretty nice. 5.4 liter sounded like a beast. It would turn heads and damn near break glass. Loved to stomp on it, but it was a daily driver. Trying to drive through a neighborhood without wakeing people up meant never going above 2,000 rpm, espcecially difficult on hills. Nice on the highway when passing someone, but you get the bad drone. If your music stays loud you don't have a problem, but still girls don't like it.
After 4-6 months or something, I put on a nice Magnaflow SI/DO muffler. Much nicer than any Flowmaster, all stainless steel (instead of rusty *** Flowmasters) and sounds pretty good. Definatley not too loud, but not too quiet.
