Ran my truck for the first time tonight!!

I would like to take a second and say that I've enjoyed reading everyone's post here and have found the info in this forum to be invaluable.

Back to the story.....

Have a Red 05 Reg. cab F150 XLT, 5.4, 3.73 LS, stock air intake,2" Groundforce shackles, Magnaflow muffler with turndown and of course the Xcalibrator. (oh yaeh.... just got the oil changed for the first time)

Went to the local track in Baytown (TX) and it was miserably HOT(94 degrees!) & HUMID. Managed to pull a 15.5 @ 89.1 mph 1/4 ( 1/8th in 10.0 @ 71.4 mph). I'm a bit dissapointed but am thinking the humidity and the heat was probably a huge factor.... also the fact it was spinning quite a bit off the line. I removed the spare tire and the taigate before I ran..... maybe should have left them on and just dropped the tailgate?? Reaction time was pretty bad..... (.859). What do you guys think? I really wanted to break into the 14's..... at least be at a 15 or 15.1. Are my goals realistic with what few mods I've done? I know I saw Hellbound running better numbers when he was stock !

i think those are pretty solid numbers

i would think that maybe lows 15's are possible with better weather and a good launch, but i think breaking into the 14's may be a bit optimistic. these trucks really produce alot of drivetrain loss and even though your engine may be outtin out ~330 hp, only about ~250 is gonna make it to the wheels

still pretty impressive for a not far from stock fullsize truck

if you got a 15.5 and your reaction was .85, doesnt that mean that theoretically, with a perfect launch you could hit 14.7ish? im not sure, never ran anything at a strip yet.

Yaeh... the times aren't bad. More than anything I know they could have been better.

Smok][n.... your right. 14's are probably a bit optimistic, especially with what little mods I have. Guess I have a goal in my head. Had a 96 GT (pretty much stock) that ran a 14.8. Wanna beat that then come home and pull a boat with the same vehicle....

SoundPer4mance.... I think I respectable reaction time is around .5 or so. I'm not one to just hang out at the track myself so am a little unsure also. Still... with a .5 that would put me in the low 15's. Maybe with the AF1 of Air Raid I may even squeeze into the 14's (14.99999 would be OK with me)

Of course as we all know..... it's NEVER ENOUGH

Then I'll want low 14's .... then break into the 13's. Next thing you know I'm springin for the charger.....

Gotta love this hobby ! Goin to the lake now.... everyone have a great 4th and I'll talk to you guys Monday

Reaction time has nothing to do with ETs. Your 15.5 is from the time you tripped the light at the start to the time you tripped the light at the end.

Wait until you get an intake kit bolted on, WOW. That was the same set-up (Magnaflow & Xcalibrator) I drove with for nearly a year waiting for the Airforce One to be released. The intake made a huge “seat of the pants” difference big time

15.5 ain’t bad at all either

An intake kit will not make as much difference as you think.....I ran with my truck totally stock with only a Xcalibrator tune and ran a 10.38 fairly consistently. I added the intake and got to a 10.30 and went back up there with the Magnaflow SISO and my best times to date is a 10.23 @70mph (see sig for details). My truck is a bit heavier than yours (4x4 Supercab) and your time is only a few tenths better so YES weather has a LOT to do with it. I bet with a nice 70 degree day with decent humidity, you'd get that LOW 15 easily. And like Red Wing Nut said, RT and ET are figured independently of eachother, you could sit at the light when it turns green for 10 minutes and then go and still run a 15.5. RT only makes a difference when you are bracket racing to determine the winner (if car A runs a 10.02 with RT of .500 and car B runs a 10.00 with RT of .599, car A wins.....and so on)

Intake with exhaust does make a noticeable difference especially if it’s a Magnaflow coupled with an Airforce One on the 3-valve

Man, all this talk is making me want to get my truck to the track soon. It's not even broken in yet. lol.

I've got a reg cab flareside with the 5.4l and 3.55 gears. Any idea what this will run stock? High 15s?

I agree, 15.5 is very respectable for these trucks, especially considering what they weigh. A regular cab 5.4 3.73LS is the best stock setup for the strip. My SCrew 5.4 3.55LS would probably be lucky to run a 16.5.

14.1 in a 98 Cobra? When I had a '98 Cobra, I ran a 13.9, bone stock down to the paper filter. In my '03 Cobra, I ran a 12.27 @114 a few weeks ago, with only a Magnaflow Catback, K&N Intake, and Predator tune. Those cars can scoot!
