Alignment after Autospring install
Alignment after Autospring install
I just got my autospring in today (just got the truck last week!) and am installing it the end of this week. My question is, do I need to wait a couple of days to let the front suspension "settle" before getting it aligned or can I get it aligned immediately after the install?
Thanks,
Matt

i did it immediately after install- i guess its a judgement call- my ride quality sucked bad after install..really bad vibe, you could feel the drag- i guess, get it installed, if you're driving fine, go ahead and let it settle, otherwise, get it alligned...
I waited until the outside of my tires wore all the way down, then took it in to the dealer to get aligned and they did that and replaced the tires for $75 for everything. I don't know how, just got lucky I guess.
By the way I didn't realize i had to re-align until it was too late, so I couldn't tell you how long to wait.

I waited about a week just because I didn't have time and the truck drove like crap. I would go with the other statement "if you're driving fine, go ahead and let it settle, otherwise, get it alligned..."
I got mine done the next day, I couldn't handle how it drove. I installed the autospring 2", and the alignment center said "good thing you had it aligned, the alignment was shot" to which I replied "yeah, I just installed a leveling kit yesterday". After alignment, it rode much better, like stock but higher...so I say do it immediately. I don't think there's any settling to be done unless your truck is brand spanking new.

I was told by Autospring that it is better to drive the vehicle a day or two to allow the spacer to "settle". I just got done putting around 70 miles on mine and couldn't wait to have it aligned. The alignment took about 1-1/2 hours.

I am installing the Daystar kit Friday, and all the local off-road shops (predominate w/ Desert Rat) say to align immediately and save your tires. The alignment of the wheels is based upon the location of the struts & springs, not the addition of the spacers. Like just was posted, the spacer cannot settle, the spring does that, and it is already settled if you drove it any length before the spacers were installed. A few miles to get to the alignment shop takes care of that.
I went in the next day after work and had the alignment done. Without the alignment I had severe lane drift and alot of play in the steering wheel. Did'nt feel safe at all especially at high speeds.
My recommendation is to spare the wear and tear on your tires, suspension, and nerves and get the alignment ASAP after the install.

Not directly related but I have a similar question. I just got the rear lowered 2" using GF Rear Shackles and also put on 22" wheels, do I need to get an alignment done? Doesn't seem like its riding that much different then stock right now.
I am lifting my rear 1", and am not doing a 4 wheel alignent since I was told that todays springs, when not removed completely, will maintain 99% of their accuracy due to guide pins and such. Not sure of exact terminology, but they drop straight down, then put up in ori
ginal location, just with 1" lift for me.
