Brake Upgrade Question

I'm looking to upgrade my 2004 FX4 Screw brakes since the factory brakes are lousy.

Here is my question: If I want the best that money can buy, which brand of rotors/pads are considered the absolute best?

I put Porterfield pads on the front. Very little brake dust and absolutely no noise. I've seen some nice slotted rotors on f150store.com, but have no experience with them.

My breaks work perfect in stock form, maybe you are using them too late or use to a cars stopping ability. Good thing you havent drove a chevy truck those break pedals take about 3in to actually slow the vehicle down.

What the heck is it with Chevy truck brakes? I drove a couple dozen of them last year, helping someone look for a used Chebby, all from 89-99. Every one of them had the brake warning light on. All of them felt lousy in the braking department. Mileage ranged from 40k-130k. Some had virtually no brakes. Three stopped OK, and she bought one of those, as it was the best of the group. I then had to adjust the brakes, and clear the light. 8000 miles later, it needs new brakes. She's been driving Chevy trucks for 35 years and drives slow and carefully.

Compared to any of those Ford has great brakes.
She drove my Ford and almost put me through the windshield at a stop.

Still, the brake pads could be better, dust wise. I put Kleen-Wheels on mine, as I hate any brake dust on my shiny rims. When I do shocks, at about 15k, I will probably put better pads on it.

As to the rotors, at 500 bucks a pair, I think taking your foot off earlier might be a better solution... at least till the price comes down out of the stratosphere

brake upgrade

over the past 2 weeks went to performance products vented rotors and hawk pads to replace stock set up.(29,000mi on originals). after break-in nice pedal feel and no fade. i'm very hard on brakes, usually only get 12-15k on fronts. can't comment on brake dust yet though company claim says there should't be any.

Thanks

chris
the rotors were from power slot not perf. products(brain f**t) fronts and rears, pads and rotors were 600.00 . the rotors have vent slots in them and they arer heavier than stock. the stock rotors were replaced twice under warrenty and were starting to warp again. when i changed the rears, both rear axle seals were leaking quite badly.(factory rear rotors were made by Bosch?!). took old rotors to dealer to show him the amount of leakage, they changed rear seals but not EM brake shoes, so now EM brake does't work.
