How much is it over the fill line?, if its just a tad, i would not worry about it, if i remember correctly i watched the guy put the oil in my truck during the first oil change and mine took 7 qts.

Ok, the strange thing is that there are 2 punched holes between the level read on oil stick dip like this O IXXXXXI O .

The oil level read right below of top of punched hole on oil stick dip..

Thanks!

Dont worry about it. Owners manual says 7 quarts. Everytime I have ever changed oil on a vehicle if you check the dip-stick before running the engine the oil always shows a little higher on the stick. You need to factor in that after running the engine awhile there will be a little oil hung up in the top end and other parts of the engine.

Don't sweat it, 7 is the magic number. Also make sure you are on level ground, when taking the measurement.

NEVER trust the dipstick. If you drained all the oil, changed the filter, added seven quarts, ran the engine and let it sit for a while, then you have what you need in the engine. Make sure as stated that you are on level ground, check it and mark the dipstick. Make the dipstick match seven quarts, don't make the oil level match the dipstick.

OK...I'll be the dunce that just has to ask. You mentioned changing the oil. Can I assume that included installing a new filter too?

Be advised, dipsticks can vary. About 7-1/2 quarts puts mine right at the top of the crosshatches, so I shoot for just under 7 to put it in the middle or so.

One other detail is that your oil should be checked cold, and your tranny hot with engine at idle.

If you just drove your truck for an hour, and checked the oil right afterwards, it will be slightly higher than when it cools off.
