Coming Back to Ford?

Hello All,

After last owning a Ford back from 1997 to 2000 (1997 F150 and 1999 F150), I'm thinking about coming back to buy a new 2005 F150 SuperCrew Lariat 4X4.

Since leaving my Fords, I've owned a 1998 Jeep Cherokee, 2002 Jeep Liberty and right now a 2003 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4X4. The two Jeeps were not so good, but I do like my Dakota still. However, we've got a new trailer that's a little much for the Dakota and thus I'm looking to get something new once again.

I don't like the Ram simply due to the lack of full size rear seat. Power and price are great mind you. I don't like the GM Products as they just seem so underpowered compared just about all full size trucks out there right there (maybe with the exception of the Tundra). Plus, I've just never been a GM guy. Hence, I've kind of narrowed it down to the Titan or the F150 Crew.

What have I missed with these trucks? I sure notice a good number of TSB's on the '05 models??? How well are they towing? My trailer doesn't weigh that much at about 5500lbs loaded up. But, I want to make sure my truck pulls it with ease, not just pull it. How has quality been with the new series since coming out in 2004? How about fuel economy relative to the others?

Look forward to comments, and glad to be back!

Neither Nissan nor Ford have all the bugs worked out of the new trucks....but make sure to test drive multiple examples of both...on Titans be aware of severe brake probs and on the Ford look for ANY sign of vibration.... Also look at "the truth about trucks"....the Ford has a steel bumber and stiffer body panels..the titans are all plastic-like. if that has any relevance.

Well, I hate to steer anyone away, but just so you know ALL of the facts--Dodge is coming out with an "extended" (if you will) cab version of the four door--so I imagine the back seat will be more full sized like a SuperCrew F150. With that being said though--go for the F150!! I love mine!! Also, 2nd build of '06 we will have a SuperCrew with a 6.5' bed if that is any concern for you. As far as towing goes, I just towed my friends Nissan (1992) 4x4 about 60 miles on a 16x7 flatbed trailer--no problem at all. I have the 5.4 w/ 3.73 gears. I know it's a smaller truck, but I would guess it weighs around 5000 pounds--just a guess though. We also have 14x7 enclosed trailers full of construction equipment that the 150's tow fine.

These trucks will tow that fairly easily. I can tow a 1600 gallon water trailer with a 125 gallon roundup barrel on it. Water weighs about 8 pounds a gallon so thats about 13,000 pounds. Round up is weighs alot more than water per gallon so it will pull it. I think you would be more satisfied with the ford but dont get me wrong the titan is a nice truck but I think the ford is a better overall truck. Whatever feels right to you

The Chevy is dated (but capable).

I just did 1,900 miles in a 2500 HD diesel and I will say it ran strong all the way pulling a large trailer, four sport bikes and all the gear.

Definitely not as smooth as my '04 F150, but I've got no beefs about the power or fuel economy with the Chevy.

Test drive bro. There are a lot of good trucks out there today.

I believe the "King Cab" is only coming out in teh 2500 series initially next year (I could be wrong). Probably another reason I'm staying away from the Ram is the fuel economy of the 5.7L Hemi. I've heard nothing but horrow stories as to how much gas it sucks! That said, I've also heard lots of good stories about it's power and torque! I guess you take the good with bad.

The Ford interior seems a little more refined than the plain Dodge interior. However, Dodge has always kind of stuck the plain interior styling going on the theory that "it's a truck". Can't necessarily argue about that, but still like the Looks of the new Ford inside and out over all others out there right now.

People want a faster truck but complains about when it gets bad gas mileage. People complain about having plastic on their truck but than complain about how heavy it is already. I think Ford did a good job meeting in the middle.

My 04 F-150 was built in aug of 03. Styling and looks are a personal process and fit and finsh in on the F-150 has greatly improved and is the best in the market place.

I'm a Reg cab 4x4 work truck with a 8 ft box guy, I have owned this f-150 for a year and a half until now... owned a 97 2002 now the 04 F-150

I don't know if the 05 or 06 F-150 have the bugs sorted out yet. I have had electrical charging issues, all four rotors turned and new front brake pads installed under warenty, I also had to buy new tires for this truck to replace the crap 235 70 17 hancook dynopro tires ( 2ply ) my drivers seat fabric and foam was replaced ( warenty ) and the engine in this truck sounds worse than a powerstroke...

I have jumped to a 06 2500 ram reg cab due to the much bigger cab and I prefer the styling of the Ram over Ford...

Ford is awsome at hidding things, tie rods ball joints ( 97 to 03 ) Cruse control switchs, rocket luantching spark plugs on the pre 04 5.4...in a year or two, issues may arise with the 04 and up trucks that Ford will hide...

Dodge has problems as well, but I'm willing to invest and take a chance on a Ram. Research and drive them all...

Psycho Vampire,
Why don't you go join a Ram board? You hate your F150 so much you dig up a 10 month old thread to complain. How many threads do you need to complain in? Goodbye already.
