Message Center

I have heard the message centers on the fx4's can tell you a ton of information (i.e. actual mph etc.) by holding down a certain button while starting. In another tread it was dtermined that this did not work on the Lariat's. Does anyone know how to get this to work on the Lariat's?

Your actual MPH while starting your truck is zero, I do know that much

Hold down the trip reset button as you turn the key. Where your odometer usually displays, it will first ask (I think) "Check Gauges". A push of the reset button cycles the gauges right, then back to normal operating order. Continued pushes of the reset button get your a digital tach (useful for the XL folks) among other things. Very cool stuff!

I have a Scangauge on my truck, and there is always a difference between what the PCM thinks your speed is, and what the needle says. That's with two IP's. Neither speedo was closer than 2 mph at 60. The original one, with the original tires, reported 3-4 mph faster than the PCM at 70.
Now, after putting slightly larger tires on, when the PCM thinks I'm doing 70, the speedo says 69. My GPS says 68.
Oh well, nobodys Speedo is all that accurate.

I think Maxx was refering to the fact that our speedo claims 10 mph or nothing.

Sorta pointing out that there is no attempt to make them accurate, if you notice the order of the posts he was kinda pointing out Suncoasts error.

BigTRQ of course had the answer you wanted.

I've never actually done the push reset thing, having the Scanguage, I never bothered.
Hope it works out for you

Wow. That's cool. Some of the other things were fuel pressure, H2O temp (I think), tranny fluid pressure, speed, dash bulb check, and then like you said, a bunch of codes. Now if we could just find a list of what those codes are, we could really be dangerous!

Thanks BigTRQ!!!! That's cool.

just went out at lunch and tried it in my XL and yep, it works. Now my question is, are we gonna screw something up by doing this? I dont want to take my truck in for some warranty work sometime and have them say oh your warranties void because you've changed some settings in the computer or something? It will be nice to use when I am towing a light load and want to use over drive, can tell if its shifting in and out.

To the best of my knowledge, this is a "read-only" set-up, so going into it shouldn't change anything. You're just reading what the PCM is getting as info/dishing out.

Yeah, you learn something new every day. I didn't know it had a digital tach... thanks!
