When I change brake pads do I need to...

Okay fellas, I changed my brake pads on my 04 FX4 SC to some ceramic pads. My truck only has 7,000 miles on it and the rotors look like they are in really good shape, normal wear! I just changed the pads all the way around without turning the rotors. Someone told me that I should have turned the rotors regardless when putting on new brake pads. Is this correct? I didn't see any need to waste the money when they just had the normal wear, no major groves. What do you folks think? Thanks!

Depends on who you ask. I've done a bunch of shadetree brake jobs at home on my vehicles and friends' vehicles without resurfacing rotors. I've done a bunch with resurfacing the rotors. Only thing I can really say is to drive it and see how it turns out.

Thanks Quintin, I don't seem to have any issues thus far. I've only put about 50 miles on the truck and everything seems to be good. I really didn't see any need to turn the rotors when they only have normal wear. Thanks again!

if your rotors have grooves and stuff like that maybe you should only do it if its that bad, mine truck has grooves on the rear rotors still working fine.

There is also a downside to machining rotors. That being you are removing some of the metal making it easier to warp. I also changed pads early on my truck. I even had some small grooves in the rears. I've had no problems in 6000 miles since...Kevin
