Horn decibel???

Does anyone know the decibel of our stock horns? I was looking into some aftermarket air horns that are 135 decibel. But if this isn't much more than stock I guess it wouldn't be worth the trouble.

Its not that our horns aren't loud enough, but sometimes you get behind someone that you really want to light up!

TIA

A car horn is approx. 110 decibels, an air raid warning approx. 130 decibels, and a cannon at 500 feet approx. 150 decibels. A fire truck siren will register between 97 and 120 decibels...thus, 135 decibels is loud. Much depends not on decibels per se, but the tone.

Air horn is great for those times when you see a group on the street with signs "HONK IF YOU SUPPORT...". What ever they are promoting. I can hit a switch and get both the regular horn and the air horn. Really catches people offguard. Haven't used it in anger yet.

I was looking at JC Whitney and Harborfreight.com, they range from $20-$50, depending on style ie. chrome or plastic.

Train Horn

I searched around and found a air horn that is 152db. It has 3 metal horns but this is really expensive for just a horn. The horn is $299, then you have to buy the compressor, which is another $349.

Train horn

152db might cause a wreck

One thing...I once had a set of cheap air horns...they were about 10 inches long...loud as Metallica but had a high pitched squeal, not a low train or "big-rig" sound. Picture the horn that an old Bugatti or Duesenberg might have and you'd be close...not exactly what I was looking for to clear traffic...The low horns usually are HUGE...not something you could mount under the hood.

This is what I have hooked up together with the OEM’s. I just use them as I normally would when need be.
I got the Nautilus
