2005 F150 Audio Help.

I want to install a In Dash DVD Player Multimedia Thingy in my 2005 XLT Supercrew. Besides the unit itself what is needed to install it? Does it install like a normal CD Deck?

The Unit is the: Pioneer AVH-P5700DVD Monitor With DVD Player Combo

you will need a metra dash kit and wire adaptor kit (last four numbers of wire kit are 5520), and some beer

Thanks Brother.

I know beer is essential. But why do you suggested it here? Is it a tough install?

Yes it installs like a normal HU, but some new or more advanced HU's actually want a +12v constant, where the stock one only supplies +12v when the truck is on, or when in ACC

and knock it off with the bold, its almost like caps just more annoying

If you have an Audiophile system in your truck is it pointless to upgrade the HU to an aftermarket one. Are basiclly the sub and steering wheel controls useless?

How is it pointless? I'd love to hear you explain this one!

Yes you can use the steering wheel controls still, you need to buy a unit called the Pac-Swix.

Ok maybe not pointless but when you buy the truck with the audiophile system in it you are basiclly getting a 6cd in dash HU with a sub. Is there a small amp with the audiophile?

By someone such as me ordering my truck with the audiophile system for something like 300 bucks and then wanting to change out the HU to something else down the road. What part of the Audiophile system is going to be used with the new HU? The Sub and stock speakers?

Would I be basiclly wasting my money that I paid for the audiophile system if I changed out to a aftermarket HU?

I did keep the sub box from my audiophile.Stuffed a JL in it and sold the rest of the system on ebay.

The audiophile is a good choice if you didnt want the trouble of installing an aftermarket.

Wife has a standard 6disc in her 150 and the audiophile is a lot better. But theres no comparision between a good aftermarket system and audiophile.

Don't spend the money on the Audiophile if you are going to go aftermarket. The speakers are good, but not as good as the ones you can buy for less money, and the sub and amp, while you can use them, are not as good, again, as the aftermaret ones. Not dissing the Audiophile, but if you are going to add DVD or bigger amp etc. why spend the money?

On a single din install, the SCOSCH 5324 is cheaper and better looking than the Metra 5807

When you took the old sub out, was there any sort of a name brand on it? What size did you replace it with? Was it an easy replacement? Did you keep the original sub amp?

Thanks for the info!

Dirt Cheap I believe was the name on it.J/K

No actually I thought the sub was the best part of the audiophile setup. Its a 2ohm dvc sub with a odd mounting pattern and a very shallow mounting depth.Being 2ohm the crackerbox amp had enough to give it a little thump.

I tried to push a few other cheap 8" subs but ford didnt put dynamite in small packages as far as amps go.

Went with a JL Audio 8W0 and an Alpine MRV-450 amp.Mounted the amp behind the rear seat pass side.

On the sub I had to make an a adapter-spacer plate to match the mounting holes in the box and the different hole pattern in the JL sub.The new sub had a deeper mounting depth (roughly 3/4 deeper) so that was how thick I made it.

Will throw some pics back up here in a few.
