Removing Antenna Base - How to?

Hey anyone out there remove their antenna base before or know how? I don't want to attempt it without knowing how to do it so I don't scratch the paint. I plan on painting it myself. Tips on the removal?

It just pops up and off. Obviously, remove antenna first, then find something flat, but sturdy and pop it off by raising edges 180 degrees apart until it lifts off.

Woah, have you done this before? Will it "pop" back on after I sand and paint it? Something flat and sturdy that will pry the base off without scratching the heck out of the paint? Nothing comes to mind on that one.

Yup, done it many times. I used a very thin bladed screwdriver. Replaced the stock one on the Lightnning with a chrome Lincoln Nav one.

Do you think the 04/05 will be the same though? Any pics of the chrome one? I'm doing a chrome motif on the truck and a chrome one might look better than painting black plastic black.

Well, don't want to steer you wrong, so I'll admit I don't know about the 05s.

However, if the new Lincoln LT has a chrome base or the new Expies, Navs; go and order one. If you're lucky, you'll get a knowledgeable parts guy, and if he can confirm the chrome lincoln ones will fit an F150, then when you pick it up, it shold be obvious from the new one, how it goes on. Or maybe the parts guy can steer you correctly. Hell, mine was only $3.75 (still a rip off).

i painted mine and it pops off, not "right" off because it takes some effort. i left the antenna on because i had to exert more force than i should of and it shot up and came back down w/o flying somewhere on the ground
