Angry gd road debris!!

so im driving back from missoula--its my birthday (22) goin 80..pass a semi. coming back into the right lane. POP! kicks left, hit the brakes pull over. friggin 8" gash in my rugged trails. driver side rear. *%$#@+*(^#~ ARGGGGG! so i wait for the traffic to clear to see if i hit something. sure enough friggin 6" hunting knife with the blade snapped off. had obviously been in the road a while...the wood handle gone, but the metal butt, knuckle guard still there...chewed up by the road. so well crap- truck just rolled to 1000 miles, go get the tire tools, and the jack. putting the crank together and whack, it hits my tailgate, 1/2" gouge in my black paint. not just scratch, its a gd ravine!

sorry, done venting. need beer. better yet, whiskey

First thing that popped into my head...sounds like a version of "It's A Great Day To Whup Somebody's ***" by Paul Thorn.

http://www.paulthorn.com/index.shtml

Those of you who've heard it, on the Bob and Tom show perhaps, are nodding your heads right about now.

Some days it just doesn't pay to wake up.
For the little it's worth, happy birthday...

I Feel Your Pain

Just last week I had a similar experience; the right rear tire on my new 05 Supercrew exploded (the truck has only 5,000 miles on it.) Anyway, there was a hole in the tread and a corresponding hole in the sidewall. Something went right through the tire tread and out the sidewall and popped it flat in about a half a second. Luckily I was only doing about 40 mph on a divided highway and was able to pull into a parking lot to change my tire.

The only good news was that I was able to find a replacement tire at my dealer. Someone had taken it off their truck spare rim when it was new and they had it sitting on the floor there in the parts department. They sold me the tire for only $75 bucks.

Anyway, try not to let it get you down too much. The gouge in the tailgate and the tire can be fixed. I am glad that the event did not end in a bad accident for you. Tomorrow will be better, I promise!

I haven't lost a tire, but I-35 coming out of Dallas claimed my windshield last time I drove down to visit family. $341.

Happy Barfday, for what it's worth.

I-90 I assume? Been there and done that on the same stretch of road between Phosphate and Missoula. Fortunately, I was in a rental and actually had cell coverage where it happend (near Drummond). Called and about 10 minutes later the guy was there... good thing too, the spare was flat.

Cool off man... I know it sucks but, things **COULD** be worse! Best of luck bud. Crap like that doesn't happen along I-64 or I-75 back in the Bluegrass!

RELAX! This is a good day. On a bad one someone drunk, sleepy, or distracted would have ran you over while you changed the tire!

Sorry bout that dude. BTDT in other vehicles. I'd just put 4 new tires on my wifes Ex Exploder and less then 300 miles later right rear tire sucked up a bolt large enough to hold the entire truck. That at 70 mph going around a right curve. Your ok and your truck needs some paint. Count your blessings dude.

yea RP it was I-90 riiight outside Bonner (ex 107) it looks like i hit the knife on the outside shoulder of the tire, (brand new, so it went through the full tread depth) slid up the side wall, slit the banding with no effort...the cords are cut clean, and then through weight and pressure, we all know what happened next. the truck actually handled extremely well for losing a tire at 80 mph. maybe that three tons is good for something afterall! it jerked initially right at the burst, but stayed true on line for me to pull off without much panicing or mass corrective measures.

since it was I-90 moving at 80-85 mph on a turn, i called the ford emergency road service that came with my F-150 just so I could have someone/something to forewarn oncoming traffic. True RP-- however the same ocurrance on 64/75 would result in a 20 car pile up with some jacknived rig in the middle of it.

ACTUALLY before i was born (@7.5mos) my parents and I were hit by a flatbed rig head-on by a drunk driver in ATL...

Thanks all for the good words
off to the dealer on tues to find a new tire, and have the rim checked.

Justin
OOOOh in response to a thread read a while ago, my spare is not balanced either. no weights, wobbly ride home.

Paul Thorn rocks! I've seen him perform live on several occassions down here in Houston! Good tunes and even better stories that lead into his songs!

Not quite the same - but kinda funny.

On Sunday morning around 2am I was making my way home after attending a graduation party. I was on State Hwy 105 (2 lane rual road) going about 70mph and entering a slow, long right curve when my eye catches on something in the middle of my lane. No real time to safely swerve, so I decide to straddle it and hope for the best. My headlights final illuminate the object. In an instant I realize that it is a 3'-4' alligator and then.... thump!

I didn't stop to see if he was alright.

"Gonna give him a goodbye present, that he never will forget!" I roll everytime I hear that song... I might just have to download..urrr... purchase that CD now.

BalogUK:

You're SO right about I64/75... there would've been three causualties too. ... but, the flip side of that story is that you would've only been moving about 15 MPH because of all the congestion... far from the 85-100mph you can run on I90.

I bought Bob and Tom's CD Camel Toe...it's got the song, and many others that'll split your guts...if you can hear the Asylum Street Spankers or Pat Dailey's "Out Drinkin" without laughing, then you're clinically dead...
