AC Clicking on every 30 seconds?
AC Clicking on every 30 seconds?
Hey Guys,
I hear a loud clicking sound every 30 seconds that is somehow related to the AC. I hear it every 30 seconds, it comes from the engine bay and I can hear it inside the cab when the radio isn't on. This only happens when the AC unit is on. Is the AC clutch bad or does it just need to be recharged?

Geese....that must be the most POS AC compressor then. I've never driven or owned a vehicle that turned on and off that much. Not even in 110 texas weather and now i'm in 55 minnesota. It's like it's not charged enough or something. I had an 05 ford explorer over the weekend and it never did that. hmmm
Way back in the "good old days" the compressors didn't cycle off, they ran all the time and burned more gas. The newer ones cycle on and off depending on how much cooling is needed. That is why it cycles on and off more in Minnesota than in Texas. They cycle less with automatic temperature control than they do with manual AC.

also remember it also depends on the temperture. and pressure of the refrigerant . when the pressure gets to low or high it will turn off and on the a/c compressor .
the txv valve in the evap regulates the refrigernat flow to the evap.
as long as your not frosting you liquid line back to the compressor you should be fine

If Its 55 Deg. Out Side Thats Why It Cycles On And Off You Refrigerant Temp Is Low . The Colder Out It Is The Lower You Refrigernat Pressure Is And It Is Cycleing So You Wont Damage Your Compressor .

Like I Said It Only Has 1 Fan To Ctrl The Pressures. So The High Or Low Pressure Ctrl Are Opening And Closing To Balance The System Correctly.
If You Think Youhave A Bigger Problem Turn Your A/c On When Itd Hot And Open The Hood Check The Ac Line Going Into The Cab And See If It Frosts Over . That Is A Indication Of Being Under Charged .
It Should Be Wet On A Hot Or Humid Day Not Frozen Or Frosted Over
