paint sealer

Does anybody know anything about a paint sealer sprayed on over the exterior paint? Does it prevent scratches at all? Cost? I saw that jimsfauns listed it as one of his mods in the gallery section. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

paint sealer = a dumb name for wax so people think they are getting something good or better than just "wax"

First... paint sealant and wax are not synonymous within the detailing realm...

When one refers to 'wax', most likely they are referring to a carnauba 'old school' type of surficial protection. A sealant, within the detailing realm, is typically a synthetic product that offers a bit more protection and longevity versus a wax.

They both have their place within the detailing community and often folks will top a sealant with a wax because they like the look of one better than the other or both together better... etc... etc... etc.... Us detailers are **** retentive like that... we notice things like this...

So... as for a sealant providing protection against scratches... the answer is no. It won't prevent. Help to avoid, maybe very slightly. Protection is what any surficial type of application of this nature will provide.

In short, if a bird bombs you, odds are that the sealant or wax will sacrifice itself to prevent the paint from being etched (just an example). If you run a tree limb down the side of your vehicle while four-wheeling, you're going to get scratched regardless of sealant or wax...

So, in summary... prevent - no way. protect - yep.

thanks

Rockpick thanks for the insight. I knew you would probably be the one to answer this question best. Seems like all the members come to you for questions about detailing our trucks and keeping them in tip top condition.

its still a wax; SYNTHETIC WAX.

I use both on my truck because the carnauba's properties dont allow it to hold up as long as the sythetic wax.

minnesota mining and manufacturing is the best
