I saw Mark's Viagra car running hard Saturday night, reminded me of the old Valvoline car, but his face is now on 5 quart bottles of Pennzoil at Wally World. Times sure do change.

Conoco (Motorcraft) is 50% Group II+ and 50% Group III. It is the best buy on the market in a Synthetic (Marketing Definition) Blend. It shows as good of used oil analysis as anything available on the market. It also has good analysis at 10,000 mi (Std Service Interval) in Hondas.
Exxon Superflo (Honda) is also a good choice. Quality 10,000 mi oil.
Mobil 7500 is all Group III (Although a lower VI / Cost Basestock than Syntec 5W-20) and could by marketing definition be labeled a Synthetic. It is a good oil.
If you want a true synthetic (Group IV/V) Mobil 1 is now available badged as 5W-20 in the new GF-4/SM variant. I doubt its any better than the 0W-20 but some people insist that anything 0W is to thin never mind this is a cold pumping and cranking standard not a viscosity.
Based on performance I have seen I just use Motorcraft (Conoco) with 6 month drains. As I have seen no evidence of anything superior for 5000 mi intervals. After its out of warranty I will go to Castrol Syntec 0W-30 (German SLX Group IV/V) and 1 year drains if its still available. If not I will go with Amsoil ASL or Mobil 1 EP 5W-30.

I use the cheap stuff from Car Quest. Its bottled by Ashland, same folks bottle for Valvoline
Any who... If you change your oil every 3000 and spend 40-50 bucks on a synthetic oil change each time, thats $1650 per 100K miles.
It only cost me $18 and that will only cost me $600 per 100K miles. I can buy a lot of bolt ons for $1050. :santa:
I ran this oil in the ole 1991 power ranger 2.9 and I just turned 176,000 miles. Never had a single engine problem with the ole beast. Knock on wood.....

The Motorcraft FL-820S is made by Purolator using the Pure One Media, a Silicon ADBV (keeps oil in filter), Quality Bypass Valve on the Mount End (on the clean end). These have a good combination of flow and filtration ability.
The Purolator branded filter has the bypass at the dome end (Allows dirt to be washed out of media when in bypass).
BTW the grey factory filter on the 4.6L/5.4L are Champion Labs, You can buy the same filter in white at Wal-Mart under the SuperTech Brand. These in my opinion are not as good a filter as the Motorcraft FL-820S. Ford uses these so they can tell if the oil has ever been changed by the owner when they get 35,000 mi seized engines.
Dont get me wrong Champion makes a good product for the dollar but a $1 more I will take the Motorcraft.
In my opinion the Motorcraft FL-820S is about as good as it gets for the dollar.
BTW the "S" stands for Silicon ADBV. Dont get a regular "FL-820".
Some Motocraft Filters are also made by Wix and Champion depending on model.
Good info, Gene, although I've never seen a plain FL-820. Ford's also changed up on the factory filters, most of them nowadays are white casings, with no exterior markings. I've seen a few of the white ones that are spray painted orange on the end to indicate a factory filter though.
Ditto on the Motorcraft filters. I picked up the last 18 of them at WallyWorld the other day. $3 each. The SuperTech filter have good track records from what I have read. But if you compare the two side-by-side (ST2 and FL-820S), you can tell a big difference in sheer volume capacity alone. The 820 is about 1.5x bigger.
Too bad they didn't have any motorcraft oil left.

Getting back to the original "oil" thread, Super Tech full synthetic is rated quite high as well. I use it on the wife's Honda and my Jeep. Just can;t seem to find the 5W-30 in stock anymore.
