Question Switch locations??

I am trying to decide where to put the switch for my back up camera. I have my xm commander in the ash tray, so that is not an option.

Where are you guys mounting your switches for lights or cameras?

Have you already got it wired into the reverse lights? If not do that and add a switch somewhere by the headlamp switch

The only problem with that is it will still only come on when the reverse lights are on. The only thing the switch could do is disable it. What he should do is hook up a relay that will be triggered by the reverse lights and that can also be triggered by a switch. That way the camera will come on everytime his backup lights come on and he can also switch it on manualy with the switch.

One other thing I found is that if use the reverse lights to power your camera and trigger you monitor when you put the truck in reverse and the camera powers up it takes a few seconds to focus (5-15 seconds depending on conditions)...by time its focused I was usually already through backing up. So I hooked mine up to come on with the ignition (the camera itself) and then just used the BU lights to trigger the monitor. That way its already focused when its triggered.
