Thanks to everyone here who recommended the 3M clear bra--looks great (i.e. you can't hardly see it ) and it was just done today--so after it "cures" more it will become more transparent. I know a couple of pics have been posted by dzervit on his Arizona Beige, so here are a couple of pics on a darker color--Dark Stone. I know it shows more on the darker colors, so if you have been thinking about getting this done--you have another comparison to go by--highly recommended especially in lovebug ridden areas!!

 

I cant see it at all. What all does it cover? ... and where can you get them? Between road contruction, and the Arkansas bugs, I know my Dark Stone will get bashed...

I got a quote for it install for $600....

thats front bumper, headlights, fog lights, front fenders, hood, full rockers down the side of the truck and bottom of doors, and behind rear wheels.

My friend just got his 05 black mustang GT done and it looks totally awesome!

 

It covers everything in the front that is painted!! It can't be installed on chrome. I have it on the front of the hood, front of fenders, lower and upper bumpers. Mine was a little less than $600. I have included a link to a pic from the side, which you can see it a bit better. Of course, I purposely tried to get the film to show up in the pic so you all could check it out. Woo-hoo! Your gonna love this film! 21K and many rocks/salt chunks later my front end is perfect!!! The film has scoffed at everything thus far. The bimmer has taken some brutal hits with some marks on the film, but nothing has pierced it or harmed the paint yet!

I'll never have another vehicle without this stuff!!!

ok, so i have 3 chips thus far on the front of the hood, all within a 8" diamater of eachother......i really wish i would have been a member here before i bought the truck and got the first chip, but so far i cannot turn back time. Are they repairable without a huge expense, and or should i get the film put over them???
at the rate i am getting them, in 3 years ill have poka dotted front end.
any suggestions?

 

Here in CT I got a quote from one place for the whole front end for almost $600. Another place was around $400 for just " paint protection" and another price for around $500 for "stone protection". My guess is that there must be a different thickness between the 2 . Both places use 3M product. Anyone else hear of 2 different thickness in the 3M products?

 

I think there are different thicknesses, but I believe it has more to do with what pieces they are in the kit. I know Alan (my installer) tried to get me to poke a hole through the product, and unless you use a knife there "ain't nothin'" getting through it. I am sure Dzervit can testify to this also. I would have to believe that any rock/stone/insect that does damage to this stuff, would have damaged (read: HOLE/DENT) your truck anyway. I think the MIL thickness on the headlight pieces is thicker--not sure about that though.

 

Looks good... urr... should I say, almost unnoticable.

It just really seemed to show up more on the black pictures I saw and thus, I didn't go with it. It's, no doubt, a great product but, for $500, I'm pretty sure I can get a re-spray on the front if it ever comes to that...

RP, your insane, its not that bad on black at all. Go find a dealer that has some black cars done. I've seen it on all sorts of bimmers.. including black. A small line at close distance. You can get it cheaper than $500 and I'd love to see a front end repaint for under a grand. Hell, it was $900 to have my hood redone on an old t-bird. It's only problem - rock chips, lots of them. To do it right, the hood/bumper/whatever must be stripped, primed, painted, and cc'd. The labor costs kill you to strip it. That first chip on that purdy black truck sure is going to suck! D'oh!
