New truck Mods & warrenty

Hi everyone, I am new to this site and just purchased a new 2005 f-150 XLT with 5.4 triton and 3.55 rear end, and tow package, I have only got 200 miles on the truck and was wondering what performane mods can I do without having warrenty issues should something need to be addressed at the dealer.

lets put it this way, any modifacation to your truck can void your warranty. but this is left up to dealers and Ford to decide wheather it was the root cause of any failure. so you never know if they will say yes or no untill you go to them with a problem.

Mac.

So even anything as simple as an exaust system or air intake system could be reason enought for them to say I am out of compliance.

I think with a tuner and exhaust system you'd be safe. Only because the tuner you can put the truck back to stock when you have to take it in.

you will be safe with a exhaust dealer's even install them. The tuner like thumper says can be put back to stock and dtc cleared . If you go with tuner just make sure its back to stock before any Dealer visits. Also welcome to F150 online

Watch out for those chrome valve stem covers. They will void warranty every time...

What exhaust system are you getting?

Get the Excalibrator from Troyer Performance. Mention your a f150online.com member and you'll get a discount. If you can wait a few weeks the Excalibrator 2 is coming out and will have some more features.

Well an awesome tuner is Xcalibrator...see threads on Mike Troyer Performance Products. He's darn good at what he does with excellent customer service to boot. I've talked with serveral mechanics though and I've been told that even returning the system back to stock before you take it in, they can tell you've tuned it. Using a tuner didn't use to void your warranty, but they also said that Ford has started to blame tuners and use them to void warranties. The tuner from what I've read definitely helps with the horrible throttle lag. But if it voids your warranty....which I'm confident from what I've been told that they do when they've seen it's been tuned with a tuner, even when put back to stock.

No, theres been plenty of threads on how to exactly make your truck return to the stock tune and get rid of any traces of a tuner. Search and you'll be enlightened.

I was quoted by a local shop that they will install a cat back duel system by magnaflow for $360.00 installed with chrome tips. Or a flowmaster for $400.00, I told him I did not want a really loud set up and he recomended the Magnaflow.
I also called the dealer and asked them if it would be a problem installing the exaust system and they told me that it would void the warrenty on the exaust system only, but that most people do it and they did not have a problem with it. I am going to look at the tuners and go from there.
again thanks for the advice.

I like your dealer already.

Go with the Magnaflow, and thats a really good price too. The cheapest online is like $380 I believe and than installation.

Cool

I allways like to hear I am getting a good deal.
This site is really great. I am looking forward to learning a lot from everyone about my new truck. I bought it Monday night and had to leave to go offshore 4 hours later, So I have not even got to buy the tag or wash it yet.
And I have 8 days before i get to sit in it and drive it again.

appearance item, not modification.

however, if those chrome things throw off the wheel balance and you have a vibe, the dealer could point the finger at those.
