Question programmer recommendation ?

I just purchased the AFO CAI online (from The Rev Shop) for my truck (2004 F140 XLT SCAB 4.6) last night ... hopefully it will be here in the next week or so (comming from Cali to NC might take a few days). I already have a FlowMaster Series 40 SIDO installed and love it.

My question is which chip reprogrammer would be best for me to use on my truck since it will no longer be at factory aspiration? Most of the programmers I've read about say they have multiple pre-programed settings but that those are for trucks with factory intake and exhaust. I know that many of you have these tuners and have intake and exhaust mods so I was hoping you could shed some light on the subject :-)

X-cal or a Diablo preditor and a custom tune.

Xcalibrator, is probably a great choice.
I have the Superchips, a Brute Force intake and a Magnaflow Catback, and have never thrown any error codes.
I would think that if there was a problem with the very small changes most intake-exhaust changes make, it would be more than the 'tuner' could 'fix'.

I suspect any tuner would be fine, but if you really want to play with your settings, Troyer Performance is probably the best source.

So would you recommend the Predator over the Xcal-1 ... but when Xcal-2 comes out it will be the way to go? If so, any ETA on the Xcal-2 ?

when the xcal 2 comes out, ill probally trade in my predator. Just for the factor that I can have multiple custom tunes. Unless a flip chip of some sort comes available for our trucks.

A flipchip will never come out for these trucks, because there is no chip to plugin to these newer style PCMs. The only way to change tunes on the fly i imagine is have a laptop plugged into to it, that can change tunes instantly, thats the only way i could think of.

FYI ... I just cancelled my AFO CAI order from The Rev Shop because they just told me it would be two weeks before they got one in to ship to me (DOH!). So I just called Troyer and ordered one that will ship today! Whoo Hooo! Plus, Troyer is in VA which is right next door to me here in NC so it should be here in a few days ... even better!

I'm still not convinced that I want to spend money on a programmer just yet though. The bad thing is that I'm sure I need to in order to get the most out of the mods ... hell even without the mods. I actually saw a superchips tuner (1714?) on ebay for $300 ... but it looks like the predator does so much more so I'm just not decided on which direction to take yet.

Someone will find a way to store multiple tunes with a flip of a switch. It will just take some time.

Definitely!

While I know you're not convinced that you need a tuner, I will tell you, it's the best thing I've ever done to my truck. You may feel the AF1 a little, you'll REALLY feel a new tune.

It's not my money and, like you, I had some hesitations about spending the bucks on it but, it's TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!.

Xcalibrator... nuff' said.

RockPick, thanks for the reply. Would you recommend waiting on the Xcalibrator2 to come out or just going ahead with the Xcalibrator ASAP?

JUST HOLD OFF !!!!

jmsavoy,

Looks like the XCAL2 is only weeks away, and if you are not sure this is your next mod just hold off!!

I can tell you a Troyer tuned Xcal 1or2 is the best mod for these trucks that you can buy!!

SCT is talking about May 15, so i hope the end of May you should see the Xcal2
