Ruined my carpet.........
Ruined my carpet.........
Well, first I will say I am a moron for doing what I did but I did it and now I gotta get a new carpet. Ok, so it's like this, I go to the yamaha dealer to pick up 2 batteries. One for the waverunner and one for my dirtbike. The WR battery is in a big box and has a separate electrotyle (acid) container and the smaller dirbike battery is in a little box and is already filled. I put them both side by side behind my seat on the rubber mat thinking all will be ok.....and then it happens. The smaller box fell over when I turned one time I guess and dumped out a good bit of acid. It filled the rubber mat up and ran off down the carpet and down the left side of the step rail/rubber door seal, down the door and some even ran down into the wiring harness on the left side!!!!!!!! It eat through the carpet almost instantly and even took some paint off the door where it contacted it. I pulled up the step rail and poured a baking soda and water solution all over everything that had it on it to instantly neutralize the acid so it wouldn't do anymore damage. But it managed to F up the carpet pretty good. I attatched some pics of the damage. I already priced a new black moulded carpet at the local dealer at $319 my cost (since I work for another local dealer). That definitelly ended up being a very expensive battery!!!
Here it ran around the seat mount and in front of it where you cannot see from this pic.
Here is some nice missing paint streaks....

We all have those "Why the hell did I do that" moments.
I've got a nice door ding in my driver's door because of that. Right on the crease of the body line too, so it'd be a pain in the *** for paintless dent repair, or at least that's what I've been told. Pulled up to a gas pump one day, windy day too, saw the yellow concrete poles they put up around the gas pump. I thought for a second, "Maybe I should pull up a little further...nah, that's close enough." Open my door to get out and the wind catches the door and slams it into the concrete post.
Somedays, you're the bird, and somedays, you're the clean truck that's about to get pooped on.

To heck with the bed rug. Its like a condom, its for protection.
Although it sucks it happened in the first place, it actually didnt look as bad as I thought it would. I guess I pictured holes appearing or something. You have my sympathy anyway.

The floor pan is fine, it seemed to just melt away the fuzzy part of the carpet and all of the rest is still in tact ( I got the baking soda on there as fast as I could). I pulled up the carpet a little and looked and there is also all that thick sound padding and it all looks ok. I pick up the carpet tommorow and from what I can tell, it should be pretty simple to install, If you feel around the center console, it isn't a solid piece over it, it kind of just goes in an inch or so around it. I guess I'll find out soon enough!!
