Raced my dads Dodge, And WON!!

I raced my old mans Dodge with the mighty Hemi this afternoon. He was bragging and saying how he was going to kick my **** so I thought I would show him who was boss. My truck is a 2004 fx4 scab flareside with the 5.4 and the only performace parts I have is 3" dual exhaust. His truck is a 2004 Dodge 3/4 ton 4by4 quad cab with the hemi. Yes his truck is about 750 pounds heavier because it is a 3/4 ton and he had a tool box in the back but he also has 45hp and 10lb/ft of torque on me. I took him off of the line by about 3/4 of a truck length, he gained on me a bit and as my truck was shifting from 1st to 2nd it stoped reving and then slowed down a bit and then grabbed second gear. It was wierd it felt like I would have taken my foot off of the gas and then pinned it again. At the end of the 1/4 I was about a truck length ahead of him.

Has anyone had this shifting problem before? My truck was on LOW FUEL does it have some sort of "limp home mode"
when LOW FUEL light is on to conserve gas or should I have my computer reflashed again? After we raced I floored it again and the truck did the same thing between 1st and 2nd and again 2nd and 3rd. I went to the gas station and filled up and it hasn't happened again. I didn't want to break down after winning the race cuz my dad would have laughed his *** off.

Any help would be great thanks guys.

You have to remember he is geared way down for pulling probable 4.10. You are at 3.73. Big difference

I've never let mine get below 1/2 a tank since we purchased it. I've only got the 4.6 but its loosened up some now that it has just over 1100 miles on it. I won't be racing anyone because I've left it completely stock for now. I do know it feels much better on taking off then it did just 200 miles ago.

I've had the same problem when flooring it and having very low gas.

I don't know what causes it, but it only happens when my low fuel light is on.

Sounds like when you floor it, the remaining gas is pulled away from the fuel pickup, starving it on first gear launch. As the acceleration dies down, the gas returns.

Will you paint a small Ram emblem on your door.

nice kill!

i notice that on mine when its low on fuel. itll rev up fine and then about 4000 rpms itll just puke like its getting no fuel at all. if i let up and give it a normal amount of gas, itll go fine. i assumed it was some kind of low fuel conservation thing they put on there...

You guys are on crack with the low fuel thing. I run my tank until I have roughly 1-3 gallons left before I fuel up. No odd shifting issues or performance problems yet. The truck gets faster 'cuz I'm not lugging around an extra 200lbs of fuel.

those long legs make a walk to the gas station (with jerry can in hand) seem so much shorter.

Bah! I've never had to walk anywhere yet... with the display center being accurate I never worry. Now, there was a couple times in my Expy I was pushing it a little... but never had to walk!

@ flarefx4,
The low fuel situation has nothing to do with the shifting. There's plenty of gas in the fuel lines to supply what you were doing. It sounds to me like you need a SuperChips or XCalibrator tuner to firm up the shifting on your truck. Call up Troyer Performance. They give really good discounts on those tuners to F150Online.com members.

guys, guys....you are running out of gas..when you accelerate hard the fuel sloshes to the back of the tank where the fuel pickup cant suck it up. mine does it all the time ,thats when i know ive gone too long after the "low fuel" has come on...its not an issue with the truck, just gas prices chris has it right!

First off, good kill. Gotta love kicking Hemi ****.

If anyone has gotten the Excalibrator from Troyer Performance it says that very thing about being low on fuel and hard acceleration. They don't recommend hard accereration under 1/4 tank, that might be a little much, just stating what their saying. Chris has it right.

You must be smokin' the same stuff as the others... the fuel is not SUCKED back out of the long fuel line and starve the engine... good lord.

The only way it'd happen is if the fuel lines were dry, but they're not. I hope!
