The mods I am doing are some factory upgrades, like adding the lariat steering wheel. The volume buttons on the steering wheel don't work because wires are missing. Same with adding a lariat cluster and message center, two wires need to be added in order to get the message center to work.

I see. Two wires plus the wiring through the column for the switches on the wheel...
I thought about adding the controls to the column, but none of the 3 aftermarket stereos I have had in my truck wanted to use them, without a lot of hassle, and expense.

I don't even bother using my remote.

Also I didn't want to mess around with the clock spring, as they have a problem sometimes on this truck, and I would dearly hate to 'unwarranty' it.

The message center would be pretty dang expensive, with the cluster and the info panel, plus finding a dealership that could program it.
That's after paying to have the cluster mileage matched.

It is a great looking cluster though.

Nope, too much for me.

I have added power seats, windows, locks, tailgate lock, tonneau lock, DVD, rearview camera, monitor, MP3, amp, woofer, FX4 cluster, cruise, etc. to my STX and I've worked out the schematics for memory seats, and heated seats for other folks trucks.

But these two jobs, I think I'll let you pioneer...

Best luck to you, and please post pics if you get it all working.

Wow thats quite the list of projects you have done. I got my lariat cluster off ebay for $250 and the switch from ford for $70. My dad is the shop foreman at a ford dealership so reprogramming won't be an expense for me.

I do have the entire wiring diagram book scanned into my computer for the '05 so this should also be helpful. I will post pics when I get these projects wrapped up, but with my schedule lately, extra daylight time is extremely rare.

I just picked up a leather wheel on e-bay, and it installed in a snap. Directions here were great! The wheel was a little stubborn pulling off....a quick shot of wd 40 fixed that.

If anyone with an XL needs a gray wheel in new condition to have a cruise function, let me know!

caimakale,

How would one go about getting a copy of that?

Have some mods I want to do myself, and wiring would goa long way!

Been looking at the Wheel controls for the stereo, and found some interesting things looking through the manuals.

I've got a '05 F-150 ( No remote controls ), she's got the focus, and I recently got a Freestar as a loaner.

While waiting to pick the F-150 up the last time I got curious. All three vehicles have the same radio, but they have different control buttons. Her foucus will change pre-selects, the Freestar would change inputs.

In looking up the wiring diagrams for the three vehicles the only difference between the various selections was the resistance placed across the two control wires.

It seems possible you could have several options by wiring up the appropriate resistance selections? Or am I barking up the wrong tree here?
