You are lucky, most areas the police tend to do their jobs. I dont want to give the police an excuse to pull me over, to much hassles. Thats why most people here are allways checking to see if the aftermarket lights are DOT or SAE approved.

Personally I am waiting for the new Harley Dav. smoked tail lights to come out and they will be legal and available directly from Ford parts.

it would probably be best then to wait for the Harley tails since they should be legal.

No, I haven't seen a daytime pic of them yet (without the lights turned on).

The key thing now is to find out when the Harley parts will be available from Ford?

here's the reply I got from smoked lightz, apparently they do your 3rd brake light too:

Dear Steve,

Thanx 4 your inquiry! Please see your quote below:

SMOKE your OWN (2) Tail lightz + (1) 3rd Brake light
$185.00

Buy a NEW set of (2) NEW Tails & (1) 3rd Brake light + SMOKE
$360.00

You can SMOKE the lightz as DARK as you want & the Brake lightz/Turn signals will be as bright as they were when they were stock red during both day & night!! The SMOKED finish will not dimm your lightz!!

If you have any further questions please let us know!

Thanx,

-The Team @ www.SmokedLightz.com

That was just way to expensive for me for some tint to be sprayed on my taillights. I still say get the tint and do it yourself. Once can of Nite Shades from summit racing, and a little bit of patience and time, and they come out great. I sprayed mine, had my uncle clearcoat them, and they look just as good as smokedlightz do! It basically cost me $60 to do my taillights, cause I shopped around on ebay and got all three brake lights for $50, just in case I screwed up so I didnt ruin my good set of taillights. If anybody wants to know more about the detailed process of tinting your taillights, shoot me an email and I'll be glad to go over it with you!

did more searching and found this pic of the Harley truck (see upper left pic). It looks like it's at some car show, I wonder which one so that we can find bigger pics. anyways, the tails look like they are "lightly" tinted:

thanks for the pic. Yeah they are pretty light.

I found another place that smokes lights: http://www.smokinlights.net

They have a video on there that shows some cars driving around and you can see their lights shine through. They also have a gallery with an interactive picture where you can click to see brake lights, turn signal, etc. They seem to charge about the same price as that other website.

I bought some tint for my mustang a while back. But it isn't spray on. It's a transparent very think vinyl. The stuff is self healing, and awesome. I'll have to look at what the name of it is when I get home. But it is about $20 for a big piece of it and applies like a big sticker, much easier then painting. I still have a bunch at home. I'll get the name of it, and when I do my truck I post up some pics of it before/after.

It's great stuff, and easily removable if need be.

There is a guy selling the VHT Nite-Shades tint on ebay

He has an interesting write up in his auction.

They sell that tint vinyl/film stuff on ebay too for $40 or $50. and it's already pre-cut for the F150 tails I think? I didn't want any creases by using that stuff, nor any runs and stuff by using the spray paint, so I had my tailights professionally smoked/painted. I just got them delivered today and they look great. Hope to install them later tonight or tomorrow. I'll post pics back in this thread after.
