cam phaser....revisited

Well, the dealer has replaced the cam phaser on the passenger side, but the engine is still making the same noise. They are ordering a replacement for the driver side--should be in next week. I did a search and could not find any mention of the drivers side needing to be replaced. Hopefully this will fix the problem--wanted to find out if anyone else had a similar issue (pass. side AND driver side replaced) and if so--did it help. Anyway, the dealer has been very cooperative and the service tech did say the engine should not be making that sound---hopefully this will fix the problem.

Replacing the cam phasers is a fairly involved job; if I was doing it, I'd throw both of them on while I was in there.

My dealer won't fix mine till early May. They said it is because that is when a new 'fix kit' comes out. I don't know if this is different then in the US (I am in Canada).

Has anybody with cam phaser noises tried a 5W30 oil to see if it reduces the noise? I'm just curious whether a thicker oil would reduce the noise since it starts once the 5W20 oil gets thinner at operating temp.

I was running the Mobil 1 SUV 5w-40 oil during the time my cam phaser was replaced, oil didn't make a difference. Shortly after having the phaser replaced the noise seemed to come back for about a week and then disappeared. Its been several months since then and no noise. I also went back to the spec oil, 5w-20.

funny you should say that because I had mine done about 1500 miles ago and now I swear I hear it again! Think I am going to wait for the "updated" kit next month and try again.
