paint interior dash?

I was just wondering if i guy could paint the interior dash pieces that are dark grey that have the vents in them a different color? I was wondering if a guy had a bright red truck what it would look like to paint them red with the rest of the dash being already black with the black leather. Something like the mustangs are. If it would look ok would the paint stick and last? Just another crazy idea i had when i was daydreaming in college today haha. Give me your 0.02 cents i guess....

Here is a link to another member who had painted his stereo surround (it used to be wood grain). It made his stereo look awesome. He also has an awesome setup up so its worth the look.

Hope that helps,
Trev

P.S. I have seen a few threads around here where people have painted the dash and i cant find them right now.

I, too, remember seeing a thread (or 2) about painted dashes, etc. But, I'm not finding them.

Personally, I wouldn't mind leaving my woodgrain and painting the light gray portions: on both sides of the radio housing (with vents), on the sides near the doors (with vents), and the portion on the flow-thru console that surrounds the shifter and cup holders. I'd like to make all of those black!

I did one several years ago and used some spray die, not paint. It looked great and hald up really well. Prep is the key.

I did it on my ricer Srt-4. It works, but it can be problimatic.

Number 1 - use paints designed to stick to plastic.

2 - clear coat a bunch

3 - don't paint anything that you will touch, because it WILL rub off enventually unless you clear coat it like the exterior paint (which you can't out of a spray bottle)
