bad gas milage??

im still learning a lot about my truck. 1st one ive had. but my gas milage sucks. the gauge reads like 13 mile a gallon. what the heck. also a buddy at work has the same truck and he gets like 17 - 19 miles a gallon. he was telling me that some trucks come with different gears. is that true? and if so what are the different gears offered and how do i find out what i have?

Try a K&N it helped me by about 1 MPG around town dont know about trips yet. With the price of gas it wont take long to pay for the filter.

Bad gas mileage?? A 3 ton truck with fairly low gearing and a large V8.....i expect it!! I in no way hoped i would get good gas mileage when I bought my truck.....

honestly? If you worry about that, i would trade her in on a Focus, or maybe one of those neat little hybrids

i understand your concern however...the way i look at it, i didnt expect good gas mileage but i didnt expect gas to go up so much either You pay for luxuries i guess...........

When I want to save gas, we drive the Town Car. It only weighs 2 tons.

phat,
You should either have 3.55 or 3.73 gears. Mine has 3.55s and I get 15-17 MPG with a regular cab. How many miles do you have on her? I was lucky to get 14 until I had about 4000 miles on mine...Kevin

If your getting 17-20 miles to the gallon you are doing way good. Its a big heavy truck not a focus

Your window sticker should say what gears you have. If you still have it, check that.

As far as milage, I'm getting about 15.5 average with mix of city/highway driving. I'm heavy on the pedal though. I get better milage on long highway trips. I averaged 16.7 @ 80 to 84 MPH on a 300 mile trip not long ago.

I've got 4x4, supercab, 3.73LS rear end.

I find that these trucks are very sensitive to driving style. A slight increase in aggresiveness results in huge drop in MPG.
