You have mildew in your ducts. As stated before, turn off the A/C before you reach your destination and switch to regular vent. This will help reduce the amount of condensation that will remain in the ducts that would be left if you run the A/C all the way to the destination. Also, leave it on vent when the vehicle is off (don't know if that makes a difference on auto climate control systems). In the meantime, get a can of Lysol, select vent using outside air and max the fan speed, then spray the Lysol into the fresh air intake vents. The fresh air vents are probably located in the wiper cowl area just like the older model trucks. The Lysol will help to kill off any mildew and mold you may currently have in the vent system.

Get some Ozium (sp?). I used it in my Toyota Camry with mildew funk and it now has that nice fresh ricer smell inside when I use the ac.

Comes in a little spray can and you spray it in your vent intake a few times when running the ac.

Frigi-Freshworks wonders for stanky vents. It doesn't mask the smell, it kills the bacteria and mold spores causing the smell.

It's a probably. I haven't looked into it on my 04 cuz I haven't needed to. Someone else here should be able to confirm the location for you.

Yes, Ozium and Frigi-Fresh should work just as well, maybe even without the "April Fresh scent." You want something that will kill bacteria, mold, and mildew with disinfectant. That's why I suggested Lysol. Most people might have that around the house already. You want to kill that stuff off and take steps to prevent it from happening again.

Try this!

Wurth A/C and Heating System Cleaner.

You use this product in your intake vents and through your interior vents. All kinds of moisture, dirt, etc. can build up and create mildew and other nasty smells. This will help deodorize and clean!

What are you complaining about if you have a "musky" smell? Isn't musk a type of good smelling men's cologne?

Now if you had a "musty" smell, that I could understand.

There's really no good place for a fish smell.

I spoke wth the Visteon design & release engineer for the P221 HVAC case and he informed me that our trucks DO NOT have a cabin filter. Also, he knows about the "musky" smell complaints. He agreed with Preyhunter about turning off your a/c before stopping the vehicle. However, instead of Lysol. He recommended going to Murray's, PepBoys etc and getting some biocide. Spraying that into the vents should solve the "musky" problem.

Not true. When you charter a fishing boat, you hope like heck you smell fish by the end of the day!
