Calling all Lift Owners
Calling all Lift Owners
Im debating between the Rancho 4" or the Procomp 6". Im not sure which one I want and if I go with the Procomp, I should definatly get the coil overs right? and has anyone used the MX-6 shocks? How are they? any good prices online? The only place I found online was www.4wheelparts.com and of course they are outrageous. Any cheaper places?
I know these are a ton of questions but I need some answers.
Looks like I'll be sitting down tomorrow and busting out the phone book..
I think I might be the first beige beast to get a real lift on here.
so don't burst my bubble!

4 Wheel Parts is the place. They will beat anyone's price out there. Hard to beat that.
I picked up a 6 inch Fabtech from them this week. It is getting installed on Tuesday at my bud's place. I can hardly wait.
I did alot of research before I decided to go with the Fabtech. I have had three Pro Comp Suspension Systems on three different Chevy Z 71's, and they are a real pain to keep an alignment on.
I spoke with the techs at Fabtech and they set me on the right path, as to why I should to with there Kit. It is alot beefier too.

I am a big fan of the ProComp lift, I did a lot of research about a year back now (thread is somewhere if you search it). Back when theses trucks first came out, a bunch of us did just about everything on investigating these lifts. Here is a quick overview of what I have found.
Rancho is pretty close to a 6" lift. The components are pretty much identical to the fabtech and procomp ones but a little costly. All of these lifts are constructed of 1/4 steel so they are pretty close on toughness. However I would have to say the Rancho and Fabtech have a better front cross member.
Look at fabtech and look at procomp, except for minor geometry differences in the front member, they are identical lifts. Except for price that is. I got my Procomp lift and had it installed for less than what the Fabtech sells for.
In terms of cost I would say go with Procomp, it is far less.
In terms of strength and durability I would say Fabtech and Rancho, however in Procomps defense, I have had this lift in for about 9 months now and I use it pretty hard and its been great. I only think you are going to max them out if you are planning on going 50mph through a desert trail. Fabtech is a most beefy lift soley due to its front cross member.
If you are interested in future add-ons I would say Procomp, the skid plates for the front end are amazing and really turn your front end into a tank. And again you arent going to break the bank on them either. I still have yet to put mine on as they are 2 states away but they are worth the money.
Overall, think about it this way. If 700 bucks difference doesnt bother you and you have the money to burn then go for the Fabtech, I wouldnt reccomend the Rancho just because it isnt really a full 6" and I want the most out of it (I think I need a body lift now too).
Fabtech and Procomp make great products. The reality of it is that every lift is different from truck to truck, the Procomp lift has been on these new F150s for over a year now and no one has had problems. They made a great product and are undercutting everyone on price.
As for the front coilovers, well thats based on what you plan on doing with the truck. The new coilovers will make the front a lot stiffer, and will definitely cost you some. Right from the Procomp techs mouth, "I would only go with a stage 2 lift if you plan on pressing your truck past the limit, i.e. baja racing or excessive speed 4 wheeling where shock heat disipation and reaction time comes into play. It is a waste to pay that kind of money for trail riding, mud or typical 4 wheeling."
To each his own, you really cant go wrong. But if I were you I would buy the procomp and get some other mods with the money you save. If you are a hard core rider willing to sacrifice some comfort and cash and plan on offroading mroe than 50% of the time then go all out and get a full stage 2 or a fabtech with new coilovers. If not and you just like to 4 wheel on the weekends, get stuck in mud and ride trails, go Stage 1 and you can always upgrade shocks later.
Good luck.
