lol never looked that much actually, f150store has them though, not crossdrilled just slotted, it was like 200 for the front....which is where the noise comes from anyway...

I think I'm gonna have to try some aftermarket brake rotors and pads...my new ones (second set) are doing the same thing.

Exclamation Several Trips to the Service Department....

For brake & rotor related issues. Along with scored rotors, I get a steering wheel shimmy and a rear end vibration while braking, sometimes quite violently.

They replaced all 4 brake pads.. problem returned.
Machined all 4 rotors... problem returned.
Replaced front rotors... problem returned.
Re-lined brakes... problem returned.
Re-machined front rotors... problem returned.

I finally got fed up and sent a claim to the Dispute Settlement Board and insited that my dealer contact Ford to get an Engineer to attend to my issue and fix it properly and permanently.

I read several posts saying that the DSB has been discontinued by Ford and any complaints are to be handled by the Better Business Bureau. Good luck.

From a new topic I posted today (6/12)

So I'm out doing some errands nearby and the truck starts to shake as if I have a flat tire. I pull over and get out only to smell a smell I've never experienced before. Couldn't find a flat nor any rodent burning on the exhaust so I went home slowly. Got home and pinpointed the smell to the back wheel which I touched and almost burnt my fingers!

Took it to local dealership and they, "freed the locked shoe." Shoe? On a 4 wheel disc vehicle?? Two days later - the problem is baaaaack. Now it's back in the shop and they are replacing the front rotors because somehow that's connected to the problem in the back. Hmmm, interesting! All I know is the truck has 8400 miles on it and I bet down the road I'll have premature rear brake wear because of this and naturally the warranty will be expired.

This is the first problem I've had in over a year of ownership but I'm in a panic because it's going on the road for vacation in a few weeks. I'm praying hard.

Good Luck!

I have had the following done for vibration

1st New Pads - Problem returned
2nd Brakes Turned - Problem returned
3rd New 'Upgraded Brakes' - Problem returned
4th Turned - Problem returned
5th Tires balanced then replaced - Not as bad now

So far ok, but still have a 'normal' vibration at 70, and my brakes squeak like a stuck pig! Really SAD! This my 1st Ford that has had this much trouble. I am getting pissed and getting ready to start the lemon law process. 18 months, - 16 visits to the shop for misc issues!

Yes it is possibel... Sounds like the e-brake got stuck. Yes, the truck does have 4 wheel disk brakes, but the e-brake is a drum/shoe type (you'd never know it unless you removed the rear rotors).

But this would have nothing to do with the front rotors. Did you complain of brake shimmy even before the incident? Maybe their doing the fronts as a courtesy.

Thumbs up

Hey guys...
I had a brake squeal from the day I drove off the lot, too. After looking through the Brakes forum for awhile, I decided to replace the pads and get the rotors machined. Went to the local Napa store, ordered their ceramic pads (make sure you take your VIN number, trust me...), had them machine the rotors for me, and installed myself. Used this red Brake Quiet I found at AutoZone to help seat the pads. I've driven over 2000 miles since I did the brake job, and haven't had any dust, squeals, or shimmies since...

I think I paid $90 for the front pads, plus $10 to have each rotor machined. The only problem I had with them was the slider was the wrong size, and when I picked up some new ones at the dealership, everything was fine. The pads stop well, with no fade, very little to almost no dust, and extremely quiet. One thing's for sure...I'm not embarrassed to stop in a drive-thru anymore!

Question

Recently my brakes started squeaking (I have about 15,000 on my 04) so I decided to have the local dealer inspect the brakes with my oil change. Less than an hour later my truck was ready. I picked up the truck, and immediately they were squeaking. They charged me $30 for the inspection, and said the squeak was caused by moisture on the pads. I turned around and took the truck back. The service manager drove the truck around the lot, and said this was normal for my model. I told him the truck did not squeak when I bought it, and I would not accept this answer. The service manager offered to "buff" the pads. He said this repair would last about 6,000 miles. I waited 2 hours for them to "buff" the pads. The tech informed me that he had turned the rotors. The service manager brought my truck around, and I asked if the rotors were turned, and he said no, that they had just buffed the pads. WTF?!? As of right now I can now stop again without people giving me dirty looks, so I am happy. Will I regret this in the future?
