Intermittent Vibration Problem

Hi All
Well my intermittent vibration problem is going nowhere fast, my truck has been at the dealership since Monday morning and I think they are still scratching their heads
The vibration in question comes and goes, starts of as a slight vibration and builds up to a undriveable condition
The service manager told the tech. to replace the driveshaft ( tech does not think its the problem ) So what next ?
Has anyone expericenced this condition or know any possible problem ? I am thinking torque convertor.

They already checked the emergency brake
limited slip rear end
Balanced the tires

I'm thinking you may be on to something. It hasn't happened recently, but last summer I was driving down a road where they were patching cracks. Right after, I developed a very pronounced vibration. When I got back to work, my buddy and I checked the tires and driveshaft thinking a piece of tar got stuck, we couldn't find anything, and when I left later, the truck was fine. A month later, felt the same vibe, I pulled over, left it running, checked the tires again and found nothing, drove away without a vibration. This happened once more in the fall, and I simply put the truck in park at the next stop light, and it went away. Hasn't happened since.

Is a pattern apparent here...put it in neutral and the vibe goes away? Tranny?

I should clarify that putting it in nuetral did not make it go away, I had to put it in park.

I'm glad I found this site. Today 4/8/05 I got this wild vibration twice. The only thing that stopped it was stopping and restarting the engine,I'm calling the dealer on monday and will post thier reply later next week.

How can we get in contact with a Ford rep. because my dealer is still scratching their heads.

Wait till I call them on Monday morning and tell them it is still doing it ( they had it for 5 full days, replaced driveshaft)

Any new news to the intermittent vibration problem. I have the same thing going on. So far the dealership has re-balanced the tires. It is in the shop now, they are going to keep it and try to duplicate the vibration.

Any help would be great.

Called Ford customer service rep. today to try and get Ford engineering involved.
She told me that only the dealers have access to them when they run into problem like this.
I went on to tell her I did not think the dealer has tried to access Ford engineering, she put me on hold for a few minutes.when she came back she said she spoke to my service advisor and they will be geting in touch with Ford.

Spoke to a guy at work today with the same truck, his truck started doing the same thing this weekend

Something must be going on here

Have the ford mechanics been able to duplicate your vibration problem? I get this vibration maybe once to maybe 5 times a month. When the vibration starts it vibrates until I stop. I make a stop at the light then start moving again it does not come back. I have also tried putting it in neutral while the vibration is happening and it still vibrates.

This is strange as hell. Anyway I just hope that the ford mechanic can duplicate this while he is driving it back and forth to work.

Good luck, I will let you know if I find anything out on my truck.

Thanks,

D

Shaking

Well the service dept at Ford had a tsb on a sticking parking brake and this is the cause of the incredible shaking. They said they fixed a couple other trucks with this and the shaking stopped so we'll have to wait and see.

Question Is this what you're describing?

I'm having what sounds like a similar problem, but I wouldn't call it a vibration, I'd call it a grinding. What I'm having is an intermittent (maybe once, twice a week) grinding coming from the front end. I tried putting the truck in neutral and nothing changes. When I slow to an almost stop, there's a clunk in the front end and it goes away -- usually for the rest of the day. I'm not a mechanic, but it sounds a LOT like it is related to the front differential, but I've tried putting it into 4WD Hi and nothing happens. Is this what y'all are hearing / feeling?

Re: Is this what you're describing?

I had the same grinding as DGoody, ended up with no 4wd at all...it wouldn't engage, no light on dash. I took it in, and they replaced the "vacuum control solenoid" on the transfer case, and so far, knock on wood, it's noiseless again...
