SO WHATS THE DEAL...WHEN YOU PULL TRANS DOWN INTO LOW IT HAS LESS POWER THAN LEAVING IN DRIVE!? DO ANY OF THE TUNERS ADDRESS THIS?

same with second gear too! I noticed that once after pulling out of a gas station and the truck felt like it didn't want to go anywhere. Then I looked down and saw that I was in second. Switched to drive and everything was fine. What's the deal?

Seems to me that I read in the manual that if you start the truck off in 2nd it is designed to do that to keep from excessive wheel slip. It's somewhere in the manual, I'll look at lunch.

About the lack of power in 1st I have no idea....no problems o this end.

It is by design, and it is supposed to do that in both first and second gear. They're linked to the electronic, fly-by-wire throttle control. I believe it's a tire slippage and low range rev limiting type of thing. Owners manual should have info about it. I have a SuperChips tuner, and it does not change this behavior.

The primary advantage of shifting into lower gears manually is engine braking, not necessarily more oomph off the line. I've never manually selected 1st in my truck, I guess its time for some experimentations.

I tested both 1st and 2nd and it is like you are starting off with a 2 cylinder lawn mower engine....

Yes this is designed into the truck, there is nothing wrong with it. If you have an 05' F150 book laying around (those colorful booklets you get from the dealer with info on the models) There is a whole page talking about it. It shows a truck from the back and kind of a skeleton view of the rear axle and talks about the traction controlling throttle or something like that in lower ranges for hill climbing and decent on rough and loose terrain. Also when you manually select 2nd, it goes into 2nd, starts off in 2nd, and stays in 2nd to the rev limiter, that's why it feels sluggish on take-off because it is not in 1st gear. And my tuner didn't change that either, only in D or D with the OD button pressed will it act like it is tuned.

This is weird. When I start in second it's slow (like it's supposed to be) but if I start in 1st it lites up the tires. We were talking about this earlier which is why I did it, just to be sure.

i know about second gear and ford autos,it was the first gear that was weird . i did read something in manual about reducing power when in first, i think, probably to save transmission, but was wondering if tuner changed it. sent email to troyer also, willput their reply here when i hear from them.thanks for replys, but still would like full power from first up thru the gears, its like it reduces timing . very strange.
