I've complained about this before, at another FORD site, but my truck has been "repainted" 6 times for this "small" problem. It's currently in the shop getting the 7th paint job, and a new bedside. I'll be very surprised if the paint color is even close on my Black/AZ Beige two tone.

In fairness to the dealer, the first 6 paint jobs were done before the TSB, but we discussed the pad as being a possible cause. They never removed it, or looked behind it.

Since OCT of last year, my truck has spent no less than 9 weeks in the shop for this "small" problem with an "easy" fix. I've been driving a beater Escort loaner for most of this time (had an 01 F150 for about a week). It smells like dirty dog and cig smoke.

So basically for more than 2 months I've payed a payment of over $500/month for a 3 year old stinky Escort.

The dealer uploaded my service records to the myford website, but it only shows the truck as being painted twice. I guess that even though they kept sending it back to the body shop, they used the same work order over and over again.

I was supposed to have it back this week, but they "forgot" to order some part, and said that it should be finished next week. At this point, I'd take any new truck over this one.

This is my first "American" vehicle, and will surely be my last.

Thanks FORD!!

Wink Got mine done......

After my “bad” experience with the “wavy rear SCAB doors”, I did some waiting and called around to see which dealers had performed the butyl pad removal. When I called the only Ford dealer around here with a body shop, the SA, a gal, told me she had hers done last week. So I took it in and low & behold there were two other ‘04’s waiting for the same thing. They took me right away and I was out of there in one hour. No rust and a great job!

My dealer finally has the stuff in stock to do the removal...so I dropped it off today I washed and waxed it up really nice so I can easily see any goofs on their part when I pick it up. I don't expect there to be any problem, but just in case

I locked my bed cover and I have the key...I hope they don't need access to the bed for this. I doubt it. Don't know why they would. I'll be ticked though if I get a call saying I need to come unlock it.

If they say they need access, you can ask why. My cover was locked too. All access is from underneath.

I was the first trunk for my dealership for the recall. I took it in this morning expecting to pick it up all scrapped and painted. The service manager has decided to replace the entire rear panel. They scrapped and said that it was too rusty to repair. This dealer outscorces all the body work. I read the replacement directions while waiting. They have to chisel, grind, and pry to remove and then weld the new panel back on and then grind to smooth the welds . I have my doubts that I am going to like the end result. A rental car loaner is part of the Ford recall. I vote that this be the F150 bad design effort. I wonder where that engineer is working now? I will let you know how it goes.

I have to say, I was VERY upset when I found out mine was too bad to repair and the entire right bed side had to be replaced with a new one. Luckily the body shop that did the work is very good. I picked it up this weekend and you would never know it has been replaced except for one little goof. They didnt paint the bottom side of the bed in front of the tire with that rubberish coating to keep rocks from chipping the paint. If you look real close at your truck you will see the entire bottom edge (about 2inches) is rubberized. No big deal, i'll just have them do it next time im up there. All in all im happy and it looks great. Plus, they undercoated the bed for me and did the rear wheel wells. It looks so much better than the half a$$ed paint job Ford does in the wheel weels. I would say just make sure the body shop has a good reputation and let them have at it. Good luck.

I picked up my truck at Fix auto last friday (it was in for other issues). I was surprised when he told me they went ahead and removed the pad. The guy i have been dealing with there also owns an 04 F-150, he knew about the TSB and went ahead and did it.
Looking underneath, they did a good job.

Mine goes in tommorow morning to get this done. I don't have any bubbles in my paint but I've had my truck since Aug. 2003 so I'm a little worried that I might need a new panel.
