Overdrive - overide?

There's been alot of talk about hunting for gears, however I've got a different issue. My truck tends to shift into OD too quickly and then lugs down. I find this somewhat annoying and of course throttle response is terrible when it lugs. So here are my questions...

1.) I have a 1714 tuner and I know there is an option for changing the shift points on the first two shifts. Would upping the shift points on 1 and 2 also push the OD shift point out? (ie. higher rpm) Thus taking care of my issue.

2.) Is there a way to reverse the OD switch so that it is off at initial start-up and for city driving and then allow me to turn it on when I get on the highway? You know like in the old days. I know there was a company out there that used to make kits to reverse the switch on Dodge vehicles, but is there any aftermarket or mod that can be performed to do this on our Fords?

Sorry so long! Thanks in Advance!

All you have to do is get yourself in the habit of shutting the OD off as soon as you start the truck; problem solved.

You're right jpdadeo. I guess I didn't state my questions in the right manner

The current OD would be fine if it would engage at a higher RPM. Therefore does anybody know if any of the tuners allows you to push the OD out a little bit?

If not, does anybody know of a mod so you don't have to switch the OD off every time you get in?

And yes as a last resort, I can continue to get in and manually switch the OD off every time I drive it.

I appreciate the response J!

No I did not realize that..... I haven't loked at the speedo when it shifts! LOL! I'm one of these guys that I'm always subconciously listineing to the motor. All I know is that mine really lugs down when it shifts into OD. I'll check the speedo later tonight to get a reading on when it actually shifts into OD!

It will kick in at various speeds, depending on how hard you accelerate. Do it very gently, it may kick in around 42 mph, and so smoothly you have to watch the tach to tell. Floor it, and it may not come on til well above 70 mph. It will also shift much more aggressively.

Yeah, I came to the same conclusion last night. It will shift into OD at 38 mph if I feather it and as high as 72 mph if I mash it. So then I drove normally at found that on average it shifted in around 45 mph around town. So to redefine my issue....It appears that my complaint is not whenit shifts into overdreive as I originally thought, but more the fact that it doesn't downshift out of OD as easily as I would like. Often I'll accelerate up through the gears, but due to traffic or whatever my speed drops back down into the 30's and you go to accelerate again and it doesn't downshift unless you you hit it pretty hard.

You might want to take it in to the dealer and complain about that because mine downshifts out of OD back into third easily when it loads up a little. I have a tuner now but drove the truck for nine months stock and never had the problem you are describing. A PCM re-flash might be in order.

@ WOT
1st gear; 40mph @ 5100rpm
2nd gear; 80mph @ 5200rpm
3rd gear; 125mph+ @ 4500rpm (kinda scary going 120 on a dyno)
4th / OD; haven't & don't want to be there, granted the truck wont ever be their either
