Question Tailgate rattle

I have an '04 FX4 with a rattle in the tailgate <40 mph.

It has been to the dealer twice to be fixed but they have blown it off both times, so it's up to me to fix it.

I know it is the tailgate because I put it down and placed a 50lb bag of sand on it and drove it around for the day. Rattle was gone.

I think it may be the support straps.

Has anyone else had this problem and I would be very thankful for any helpful suggestions for a cure.

Thanks in advance!

Yep, mine does it. When the tailgate latches to the bed the rollers there move around, just grease them lightly and it should go away for awhile, dunno if theres any permanent way to fix it yet?

Mine squeaks and chirps like a cricket on an acid trip or something just driving down my driveway, but I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet.

Not the correct answer, but how about putting on a tonneau? Something that puts a load a slight load on the gate? I use a fold-a-cover, nad it's rubber seal is firmly against the tailgate.

Tonneau covers cost money.

I can get all the lithium grease I need for free.

Yah, das grease is goot.

Still, gives someone a heck of an argument for the tonneau.
Half the problem in doing a mod is selling it to the wife...
