Shaky shifter???
Shaky shifter???
Does anyone else have this problem?
After the engine is warmed up and idling at a stop while in gear, I hear an intermittant moaning/buzzing coming from under the hood on the drivers side. When this happens the gear shifter in the console rattles or vibrates in synch with the noise.
At first I thought this was the power steering moan which I've had on my Mustang in the past. But I've taken it to the dealer for this twice. 1st time they checked the power steering pressure and said it was fine. 2nd time I drove the mechanic around while the noise was happening and he said, 'Wow, I've never heard that before'. I also flushed out the original PS fluid and replaced with Mobil 1 ATF (per some advice others on here have done with power steering noise).
My wife calls my truck Tug, because it sounds like a tug boat when this happens. I've got a 3rd appt. this week to take it in again, just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions.
TIA

This is going to be one of those things that's going to take a couple of visits before they nail it down. Your dealer may truly not have seen this before, try and be patient. Somebody has to be the guinea pig when a new problem arises. That's how they find and fix these things.
Let us know what they find.

I just got my truck back from the dealer yesterday concerning this issue. They found nothing and said they never heard any noise or vibration in the gear shift. The service mgr. and shop forman drove 54 miles in the truck and didn't notice anything.
On the way to work this morning, about ten miles into my trip I start hearing the noise and the shifter is vibrating. I called the service mgr. and he gave me his cell phone and said to call him and bring the truck in when it acts up. I'm frustrated but I do think they are trying.
Despite all of this, my wife loves my truck and wants it for her own. We went to the local Ford stealership and worked an awesome deal with the owner for another F150 for me. I ordered an 05 SuperCrew 4x4, 3.73 LS, audiophile/mp3, etc. I hope I'm doing the right thing buying another identical truck, when I can't seem to get all of the issues worked out with my current one. btw, this second F150 is from a different stealership than where I bought my first truck.

yeah, it's going to take a few visits and a few road tests before they isolate a vibration.
keep in mind the warranty repair process. They guess what it is and fix/replace that part. Doesn't matter if it isn't fixed yet. Then they have to move on to the next vehicle. This is the downside to flat rate mechanics.

I've had the same problem...due to its intermittent nature...have been unable to figure out what is causing it.....when I put the shifter in park or neutral....noise goes away..

i also had the gear shift button rattle in the handl...i applies a piece of "fuzzy" self adhesive velcro to passenger side of button so that the vecro is only visible to me and it tightened up the shifter feel tremendously and no rattle......
It is very intermittant. This was happening on a daily basis during the winter months. But happens very seldom now. I don't know how this would be related to the weather, or maybe the problem is just disappearing. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
