I will have a leased vehicle, a 2005 F-150 with the 4.6 engine.

I want to take it to the local exhaust shop to have a better-sounding muffler installed. I want a deep sound when I stomp on it but not something that is annoying when cruising.

So... Flowmaster? Magnaflow?

 

MagnaFlow got my money and gets my vote. Mellow while cruising but roars when stepped on.

 

Just did my FlowMaster Super 40 install.....SI/SO 2.5 inch

Resonated Tip exit just in front of passenger rear wheel

Its NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNnnnnice...........no cabin drone either....and you know I'm coming 1/4 a block away

Inside cabin sound level is fine.....not too loud and did I mention no drone at all.......

 

Can't say with experience, but from what I've read, Magnaflow is in my (near) future. From what I've read on this site, people are happy with the sound at idle, no drone, and throaty sound when stomping on it.

 

I'm in the same position with a leased vehicle. I wanted to do something to the exhaust for better sound without investing major $$ just to be turned back in at the end of the lease. I went to the local Meineke Muffler shop and had them put their performance muffler on the truck...no additional pipes...just the muffler. Sounds every bit as good as a Magnaflow and it only cost $125 installed. It has a nice throaty sound from the exterior with no interior drone. I'm quite happy with the results!

 

Tell you what to do for sound and performance, cheaply. for 30 bucks at our local muffler shop we ran 2 1/2 inch pipe's right out the stock location utilizing all the factory hangers in their stock locations. sounds awesome and free'd up the motor as well..no mufflers. not loud unless your in the throttle hard.

I LOVE my Magnaflow but certainly can't give a fair comparison to the Flowmaster as I've never had one...

 

I just had my Super 40 Flowmaster SI/DO 2.5" and this muffler is AWESOME....flowmaster delivered again....while accelerating there is a very sweet throaty growl and then the exhaust note literally dissappears when cruising, i have to listen real hard to be able to hear anything......when you get up on it, heads turn..

I dont care what anyone says, Flowmaster is still the best... AND my throttle response seems a little better.......

 

I can tell you from experiance the Magnaflow is the best performing exhaust of the two. I do mean by a lot. At least if you compare the FM Super 40 SIDO to the Maganflow SIDO. Not sure about any of the other FM options. They have quite a few different options now.

I just had the FM removed and had the Magnaflow installed. It is a big difference in low end torque.

The Flowmaster does sound better than the Magnaflow but it also has drone at highway speed, which really didn't bother me. Mine is even made worse because of the ARE LSII Bed cover as it resonates in the bed.

Both of the exhausts sound good.

So it comes down to what you want. Sound or performance.

I now swear by the Magnaflow on these trucks.

 

I just did the Borla SIDO...........have used Borla before, they dont have the drone that comes with B&B, Dynomax and Flowmaster. I have used each of these on other vehicles.
