This may help you out....

"The trucks all use the same wire harness but the Lariat cluster has no trip reset button so you will loose this. Others that have upgraded to the Lariat or FX4 lost a couple features such as dome light with door open and some warning chimes. This can be fixed by a garage that has a NGS or WDS ford programming tool. They need to download info out of truck with stock cluster installed and then switch out and upload Lariat or FX4 cluster. Ford has codes that need to match for all the features to work."

This was the response I got from someone that sells OEM 04 F-150 Clusters.

Find a garage that has a NGS or WDS programming tool.

The PCM is CAN. Not standard Ford.

Most dealerships charge 85 bucks to 'turn on' the FX4 board. The headlight, door chimes, door dome light, switch are what are disabled when you havn't programmed it. also, on the FX4 there is a temp and compass reading, bogus with dashes, untill they reprogram.

The trip is still there, but rather than display it STX style, with the OD reading, it's only avalable when you push the black button, toggleing back and forth. after programing, The OD looks the same as the stock STX OD.

Sorry I should have also told you that in calling twelve dealerships in my area, Southern California, three said you couldn't swap it, four said they didn't do that. Five wanted 85-170 to do it. The 170 was to swap the IP for me. Twenty minutes work. So I did it myself.

They don't set mileage. When I had it done, I swapped it in their parking lot, to be sure there was no complaint about different mileage. They never bothered to open the box I put the old one in, never downloaded anything, just asked if the mileage was the same. It was about 10 miles off, the guy just shrugged and wrote down that it was the same.
