Angry Audiophile On The Fritz

My Audiophile has cd-napped five of my cds. Yesterday morning I went to load two more cds into my player. Already had 4 in there, working perfectly. Loaded in cd #5, went to load cd#6 and it spit it out. Did so again two or three times. Yelled, "What the ****!"

Then tried to play a cd...nothing.
Then tried to eject a cd...nothing.
Then tried to load a cd...nothing.

So now I have five cds stuck in my dash. The display says I only have three in there.

Called dealer. They're getting me a new one. But I still have five cds stuck in this one. Will a shop tech be able to get these out for me undamaged?

I had a problem with mine, I ended up unplugging the battery so that it would reset the radio. After I did that everything is working properly again. Although my problem was that it wasn't reading my cds, I was still able to get them out. Hopefully that will help you, if you haven't tried. Good luck.

Mine will give little skips and such occasionally, replay the cd and nothing. Also found out that I don't push any buttons until the thing is actually playing something. If i start the truck and hit the end of or beginning of button before it is done it will spit it out as bad.

Well, I tried disconnecting the battery. Didn't work. It almost made it worse, because it made a noise for the longest time, like it was doing something inside, but no results. Fortunately that stopped too.

I asked if the tech can get the cds out and they said probably not. That the radio service center will have to FedEx them back. Why do I sense these cds not coming back scratchless, like they were when they went into the player?

I wonder if I can work this into the '05 Audiophile head unit that plays MP3s?

I hope that you will get a new one right away. When I called the dealer about my problem they said that they would take the radio out and send it away to get fixed. So I would end up not having a radio in my truck for 2 to 3 weeks. Congrats if you can get a new one right away. Good luck.

Keep us informed as to how this turns out... very interesting.

I had a changer freak out on me like this back in an old car of mine (it was a Kenwood 6-disc)... I ended up having to perform surgery to remove the CDs.

I have to bring it in to the dealer tomorrow so they can get some part numbers off of it. Not sure why they can't just look them up. But they said I would get a new one. I get the impression that they'll leave this one in until the new one arrives.

After disconnecting the battery the display now says I have six cds in the dash instead of three, when there's really five.

also try pulling the radio fuse in the fuse panel. Sport Trac owners with the Audiophile 6 disc changer had the same problem, and the radio would reset after pulling the fuse in the panel. sometimes it might not reset though. I got my cd's stuck too in my old Sport Trac, and I ended up pulling the radio out of the dash and very carefully opened up the radio case and removed my cd's by hand.

Just an update here:

Took it to the dealer on the 16th. They pulled the radio out, got the part number and ordered me a brand new one.

It should be here this week.

Wait Time

When I had a problem with mine, after the 3rd visit I just asked the owner if he was going to have it fixed before I went away that night or If I had to start having the dealer across town start doing all my service. His reply was to the service writer to take one out of another truck.

Where did you guys get the shiny plates inbetween the front door and rear door for your trucks? I was under the impression all FX4's came with the dull plastic look. Don't understand why, but... If you did do it yourself, were they hard to install?

Thanks.

Mine came with the truck. I think the dull ones are only on '05s. By the way, the shiny ones damage real easily.
