Torqshift snap ring failure

How do you find the build date of your tranny?

that recall only applies to the 6.0L Diesel with torque shift trans.

if u have a 6.0L just asked your dealer to run your vin if it applies it will come up.

It originally was for the diesel, but now it includes the 6.8L V-10 too.

I've been arguing with Ford's executive office all day. My build date is 1/05 and the recall is for trucks built before 12/04. I only have 1200 miles on the truck and it ticks me off that I have to have the tranny rebuilt, especially since they knew they had a problem when they built the truck.

well they were correcting the problem on the assembly line when they discovered the problem and engineered a fix, your trany maybe fine. thtas why it only applied to trucks built in a certin build date.

is ford saying your truck doesn't apply?

They say my truck is included in the recall. The recall is for trucks built before 12/04, but mine was built 1/05 so I don't understand why they are including it in the recall.

you never know, but i would suspect that the trans build date is different then the truck build date and so then know when the trans was assembled and then know its was put in your truck, thus making ti part of the recall. but that just a guess. i would just take it in and have the updated parts put in your trans and things should be good.

Thanks Mac. I guess I have no choice because I don't want to be wondering if, and when the snap ring will fail. I wonder why Ford would install a tranny they knew they were having problems with in a new truck.

this is what i have been told, this problem first showed up in trucks that had snow plows or other stuff mounted to them, trucks that were always being shifted from D to R over and over, what was happening is the snap ring would start to walk around in the case and when the open end got to a cut out in the case it would pop out and cause a catistophic failure, and this something no one had ever seen before, so they desgined and new snap ring that would move, but the forces on the snap ring started it to cut in to the case causing metal to go through the trans causing a failure, so ford engineers came up with a whole new low/rev drive assy and retaining method and ford made the call to make it a recall.
