Best Bang for the Buck on new 2005 Lariat?

I accidently posted this in the Supercrew area. Mine is actually a Supercab....

Hi everyone, well, after 30 years of being a GM man, I finally bought a Ford. It was time to buy a truck and I just don't like the Chevys and GMC's this year. The Ford is a great truck, but like all of the reviews I have read, it seems a little sluggish. What is the cheapest way to get perfomance improvement. (I am not cheap, but I have already spent over $4k on Wheels and tires, Alarms, Subwoofer system, Putco Grill, Undercover Tonneau cover and Dualcomp bedliner.)

Thanks, Iam74Gibson

Welcome. Search around under tuners (superchips, diablo, X calibrator), for 350-400, they say you can really change teh personality. Mine moves pretty god, so I'm waiting until the superchargers get perfected. But from the jeep i did, if you just want the most bang for the buck, get I'd agree with those who say tuner. Exhaust sounds nice, but won't do much for the overall punch (although in my experience, it does smotth hard acceleration a bit). Air intake may be an easy number 2 choice, gives crisper acceleration, but increases noise.

Talk to Mike Troyer at Troyer Performance. He posts in the Chips forum and can tell you what the best bang for the buck is. (that is his specialty)

He also does "stage" kits. Check out his site at www.troyerperformance.com you won't be sorry.

I posted a similar thread when I got my truck 1 week ago. It is due to the fact that it is a drive by wire vehicle and it computes based on the input recieved which can lag out things. Read up on an Xcalibrator...seems to tune the truck back to a performer with good throttle response and better overall performance.

The Xcalibrator is probably the biggest bang for the buck mod you can do. It’s three custom in-depth tunes specifically for your trucks PCM code. It eliminates throttle lag completely, gives you instant down-shifts, goes open loop instantly at WOT, firms up the up-shifts, removes the speed limiter, increases the rev-limiter, etc, etc. It really wakes up the truck and makes it fun to drive.

I second the Troyer Perf. phone call. He'll set you up with the XCal and a nice Magnaflow exhaust.

If you want to schitt your pants, then go this route, IMHO.

Good Luck and congrats on going the Ford route. You are a smart man.
