Ring and Pinion installation

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...02&prmenbr=361

This is giving me alot of confidence in installing a new ring and pinion set on my truck...

I think when I save a few more bucks, im gonna get it. The if I understand what they're doing, I'll order some 4.30 gears for my truck..

5.4 Ltr has the 8.8" rear.. correct?

5.4 liter truck should have the 9.75" rear.

And you're going to have an absolute hell of a time pulling the crush sleeve down to set pinion bearing preload on your back with the truck on stands in your driveway or something. Trust me on this one.

I have access to a lift at a local truck stop. Manager of the tire center and I are pretty good friends.

9.75".... Guess I better look at different gears then... I seen some for $200 bucks by richmond... I guess I better look again..

Thx Quintin

That aint no lie.

Just fyi though, the same crush sleve for 8.8's will work on 9.75. Found one a little narrower then what came with my 4.11 setup and it works great.

if you have the right tools and the patience to do it it is not that bad just dont get lazy make sure it is all in specs with your backlash and shim depth

Backlash and pinion depth isn't that difficult if you've got the tools. The part I hate the most is setting pinion bearing preload. Last 9.75 I did took me and two other guys pulling on about 10' worth of cheater pipe. Starting the crush sleeve in a hydraulic press may help a little to get it moving too.
