Boy..I've never seen so much whining and devisive attitudes over something as trivial as mud flaps/splash guards...LOL Good grief. They look just fine and they do a good job. If you like them, get them. If you don't like them, that's fine too. No big deal.

and if you're not sure, you start a thread at f150online asking for others' opinions.

True, but then you have people posting telling others that they're essentially an idiot and your truck looks like garbage if you DO get them Fortunately, I learned a long time ago not to care about what other people think - as it relates to me or something I might decide to do

I can understand that, and I can't control what people say to others.

If you'll notice my initial post, I asked for pictures of trucks with them on, and I've gotten a few. It has helped. I'm still deciding, but I'm more informed now, by how they look.

Since that is my goal, I'd say this thread is going along just fine.

That's a really hard question, whether to flap it or not. I don't
really like the way the trucks look with the flaps BUT I also don't like the way the slush gets caught up on my steps without them.

Here where I live if you don't have mud guards you will be seeing a lot of chips along the rocker panels. I didn't have them on my last truck and I was amazed at the ammount of damage I had there from just rocks that the tires kick up. I figured since I have such a beautiful truck this time I'd get them dealer installed. I'll try and take some pics, mine are black and go well iwht my black/slate two tone FX4.

Your post compels me to respond. As you may note I do not post very often. In fact, I just looked at my gallery and realized I have not posted any recent pix either - I need to rectify that one of these days...

Be that as it may, I had my dealer install the Ford OEM flaps before I picked up my '04 SCrew just over a year ago. My reasoning was that, like others who have posted, I wanted to prevent as many of the inevitable rock chips as I could. Plus, since the dealer installed the OEM flaps, if they break, the dealer will replace, no charge. In fact, I am getting one replaced tomorrow that broke this winter while driving over a snow/ice drift (I smell what you're cookin', BlueFX4Flare... )

I have posted the best photo from my gallery showing the mudflaps. If you look close, you can see the how the rear mud flap protects immediately rearward of the wheelwell. I can get other photos posted dedicated to this subject if you anyone would like. I would reiterate what lariatf150 stated and add this:

Buy what you like and like what you buy!

I've debated the same thing. I didn't put any on mine as of yet. IMO they look better if you fender flares are black.Sometimes the small, trivial things make a big impact.

I was undecided until the powder coating came off my black running board mounting brackets. They probably weren't coated properly, but the flying rocks from the front tires didn't help either.
The molded flaps don't take away from the looks, but don't really help either. Mud and snow no longer build up on my running boards and they are staying cleaner. So, for me, it was an upgrade.

The dealer told me that the plastic molded mud flaps only come in black. I would have prefered a gray to match the wheel lip molding on the FX-4..

Get em

I think all vehicles should have some sort of mud flap I got the ford ones and I am happy with them yes the truck looked tougher before but I dont plan on having stones and dirt flying up on my new truck.

Why Dont auto manufacturers put splash guards on all vehicles as standard equipment it seems like a no brainer!

the main thing ive noticed is that the only person you should worry about there opion is your wife if you have one. if you put somthing on your truck that she thinks looks stupid she will bug the s#$t out of you until you change it back. that just my married life experience.
