Power Windows and Locks; STX vs. XLT

from what i have seen/read the only difference between the STX and the XLT is that the XLT has chrome bumpers, pw and pl and thats about it for about 2k more. I like the STX looks with the color matching bumpers and the fog lights. How feasible is adding power windows to it and how expensive. I know you can add power locks for like $100 in addition to an alarm, so thats no big deal. Can you add aftermarket power windows? how much would that run? how does it look, function on the inside? I hate to go to an XLT for the price differeence over the STX when my only real advantage is power windows. any advise anyone?

Well I do know theres a couyple people on this forum that have gotten power windows from A1 electronics i believe. The kit is a complete replacement and cost about $200 - 300. I got power locks and alarm for $60 on ebay about a month ago and am looking into windows right now. Im looking into a SPAL universal kit on ebay for about $100. Id actually rather this because ive been told i can still leave the cranks on(i like being able to roll it down without the keys and such).

Go with the XLT if you want all this with your truck! The XLT does include, Power Windows, Power Locks, Power Mirrors and option of heated signal mirrors. XLT includes to over head rail track with storage or option of DVD player. Option of Power rear slider for back window. Most XLTs come with Adjusable peddles. Chrome bumpers and you get a bit more chrome inside the cab that goes around the AC vents. Also you have a choice of 2 engines, the 4.6 or the 5.4 with the XLT, STX will only give you 4.6. The STX's are a nice truck, but if you want a truck with most in it for the money, go with the XLT, you will spend to much trying to put evrything into an STX then it would be to upgrade to a XLT. Just my .02 cents.

so power windows are an after market option. how does the setup work? do they take the cranks off I guess and add a piece to fill the hole left? where do they put the power window buttons? Do they go well with the interior or do they look cheap and stand out like a sore thumb?

Power locks $100
Power windows from what yall have said $300 or so
total $400 vs. 2k+ for the XLT ( and I am not a big fan of chrome)
well worth it if the power windows dont end up looking like crap on the inside. anyone have a pic?

Just buy the XLT if you really want PW

Aftermarket add-ons like windows and locks will look hokey at best. The STX has cheaper seats, no Tach, no carpet, and slew of other features omitted.

What happens when they stop working, or need replacement parts? These kits are cut-in and spliced to the vehicles wiring, when I worked at the dealer people would pay me to just get them back to normal, (no PW or PL)

Further note, I know here in the Detroit Metro area they have a XLT package discount of $1245 which means I can get an XLT with the 5.4L for under $32,000 (4x4 Super Cab) an STX without all the goodies and a 4.6L is about $31,000. The 5.4L is an $895 option.

Good Luck in whatever you decided,
Ed

chrome on the outside of any car belongs on the XL model IMO. it looks cheap. if you compare the 4.6 XLT and the 4.6 STX. there aint much a difference besides power windows, doors and mirrors which can be had for $700 way below the $2000 XLT upgrade.

if you want it buy

I was debating PW I think I will get PL because you will not see it.

As far as price.. I got my STX SCAB for 19,200 before my trade in and 15,200 with my trade (98 blazer 150k miles)

If you pay 31k you are getiing ripped.

Heres the A1 kit for $240 :https://www.f150online.com/forums/li...ct_Code=FD83-K

I know ChrisAdams (who added power windows and locks for a total of $110 pretty impressive and alot less than $2000) used a colibri kit that is similar to the spal kit for around $100. As for your question about how the doors looks, someone on here has a picture but I cant find it. There is just a black plug thing that goes over the hole for the crank and they actually mounted the switches on either side of the cig lighter. It doesnt look bad at all IMO. Here's a link to a good thread but im still searching for whoever got the pics : here

just saw a pic of ChrisAdams window controls mounted on the sides of the cig lighter. Pretty sweet if I do say so, might have to take the same route. Either way about it even at $700 out for windows and locks, thats still $1300 better than the XLT.

Read my lips, buy the XLT

J-cuff I take offence to me "getting ripped" I'm using MSRP to MSRP, here in the north 4x4 is a given, which is what my examples were, my trucks MSRP was $33,555 and I got it for $23,200 plus tax and a free Ford bedliner.

All I'm trying to say is here in Metro Detroit, and maybe other areas, there is a $1,245 additional discount on an XLT's which makes all the extra's only a few hundred dollars more. They have this extra discount on the XLT's because the FX4's are all the rage in this area.

Hey South 1011- Where did you find the pix of ChrisAdams installation of the window switches? I'm about to install power locks and windows and that is one of the options I am considering.

I,m doing this for about $135 with parts bought from AutoDAX.
