annoying dealership stickers

i was wondering how yall got your dealership sticker off the tailgate. I have one from mchaik ford and it looks trashy as hell. i started to peel it off and it just left goop that didnt want to come off. anyone have details of how to get it off clean?they really look like crap

KaNigIt 03-04-2005 12:01 AM

just peel it off and get a paper towel and some "goof off" or gasoline and that gunk will eventually come off.... I hated the stupid bird ont he mcHaik i bought mine from here in Houston

madtrucker 03-04-2005 12:02 AM

tell me about it, it looks like a retarted peacok with a rainbow tail:beers:

haha it wont let me right pea****

ArcticCat 03-04-2005 12:04 AM

I told the dealership not to put one on or I would not take the truck. They whined but listened to my warning.

try goo b gone? its supposed to be safe on paint.

RockyJSquirrel 03-04-2005 12:11 AM

Use a hairdryer to warm it up, then peel it off. Clean up the remaining adhesive residue and then hit the area with an extra coat of wax.

Copenhagen848 03-04-2005 12:39 AM

That was off my truck as soon as I got home from the dealership.....fortunately, the dealership tried to put it on when the truck was a little wet after they washed it (my dealership had to do a trade), so it basically fell off when I touched it. As mentioned above, Goo Gone or similar will take off the sticky crap.

fordman4life 03-04-2005 03:00 AM

rubbing alcohol also..

mlawdawg 03-04-2005 03:08 AM

Hair dryer works best. Just heat it up until it it peels off. Teh minimal residue can be taken off with McGuire's #1.

BIG_BLUE_FX4 03-04-2005 06:20 AM

I'm with you guys. I have never taken delivery of a vehicle with the dealer label on it. I always make sure they know that I will not accept it with their advertisement on it.
Another vote for Goo Gone to remove "goop".

Gtullous 03-04-2005 07:22 AM

i usually remove mine also but this one says just EXTREME for Extreme Ford and it looks cool...if you use a blow dryer and some goo gone it will come rite off....

MRBIG 03-04-2005 08:30 AM

Try some 60 grit on a belt sander if that doesn't get it try a propane torch.

Maybe........try the hairdryer and goo-gone FIRST:smoke:

RockyJSquirrel 03-04-2005 08:34 AM

And while you have the hair dryer out, use it to peel off the obnoxious 'Death or Serious Injury May Occur' bright yellow stickers on your sunvisors.

Thrill Racing 03-04-2005 08:37 AM

I always thought I was the only one that hated the dealership sticker and the cheapy plastic plate logo. Don't people realize that the whole point of the stickers and BS is free advertiseing. I mean I wouldn't recomend ANYONE to the dealership I bought my truck from much less run around with telling everyone that looks at my truck were to get one from.

:santa: = who knows

Same here ! ;)

My new 05 Screw was built in January of 05 and I took delivery in early February. The first thing I did when I got home with it was peel the dealer advertisment sticker off. Since it had just been put on there, it pulled right off and did not leave a speck of residue. I would imagine the adhesive might need a little more help (i.e. the hair dryer trick) if the sticker has been on the vehicle for awhile.

1depd 03-04-2005 10:50 AM

The only truck I bought that still had one on it, the boneheads put it on crooked. It had a "frame" type sticker on the outside the the dealership logo on the inside. The logo was not square with the frame. I thought about leaving it on just to show how stupid the dealership was, but I had an easy transaction with them, so off it came.

dzervit 03-04-2005 10:54 AM

 I love the look on the sales puke's face when I say "And I'm not taking it if I see one sticker, plate holder, or any other form of advertising on my vehicle... that includes any 'decals' like 4x4 or whatever... " cracks me up.

HAH, you make them take off the 4x4 sticker too, dang you are a hard sale :) I peeled off all stickers (including 4x4) as soon as I pulled in the driveway! Much cleaner!

pa_wolf62 03-04-2005 02:44 PM

I dont mind the plate frame cause I can just take that off easy. But I also refuse to take any vehicle if it has a dealer sticker on it.

odin17 03-04-2005 03:17 PM

rockyjsquirrel, using a blowdryer will take off the stickers on the visors? it almost seems as tho they're ironed on. peeling them off won't hurt the fabric?

vader716 03-04-2005 03:23 PM

I did the same....told them I didn't want the sticker...unless they want to pay me .25 a mile for advertising. The truck had just arrived so they never put it on.

Correct. I learned about it on this forum a few months ago. A hairdryer and a little patience will get them off very easily. Don't pull too hard, let the heat release the adhesive.

odin17 03-04-2005 03:41 PM

that's awesome to know! god i hate those things. just assumed i was stuck with them. tried to peal them off another vehicle and just made a mess of it. thanks for the tip!:rocker:

Quintin 03-04-2005 04:43 PM

When I bought my truck, it came from another dealer via dealer transfer and had their sticker on the tailgate. After peeling it off, the dealer I bought it from put one of theirs on it. I told them I wasn't accepting it if they didn't take that crap off right there, and they did.

madtrucker 03-04-2005 05:56 PM

notice when you buy the truck they are compliant to every wish but as soon as you need warranty work they bs you?

Did you take the Ford emblems off too or are you advertising for them .:D .

kirkb 03-04-2005 06:52 PM

I would take the Ford emblems off if I could - for sure.

I did remove all stickers, license plate frames, etc as soon as I got it home.

The problem with the emblems is that they have holes underneath them - or mine would be long gone.

I did order some custom overlays with my the number and style from my MX bike to put over them as the next best thing however.

I also made this unfortunate discovery. Do not use rubbing alcohol!

ak_1fitty 03-04-2005 08:01 PM

best way i have found to de badge any vehicle is to use a heat gun and some fishing line (dental flos will work too) and it will take most of the goop off with the badge.... sometimes all the "goop"

Quintin 03-04-2005 08:47 PM

WD40 works okay for removing decals too. 3M makes some stuff that comes in quart cans, I think, "General Adhesive Remover," stuff works like gangbusters.

SlapPaddle 03-04-2005 09:22 PM

WD-40  Works on inspection sticker adhesive, and anything else's adhesive... and it's already in your workshop!

BTW- I'm also a member of the 'no advertising decal on my truck' club since 1981...

ThumperMX113 03-04-2005 10:29 PM

Uh oh...

I used rubbing alcohol to clean the door handles when I put my TFP covers on but nothing happened to the paint cause Im sure I touched the paint a little bit.

I have heard horror stories about removing the stickers on the visors. I would really hate to have to get them re-done. So is the hair dryer thing a sure bet? Would a Millwakee heat gun be overkill?

04 RED LARIAT 03-04-2005 11:30 PM

Hum. I guess im the odd one out.

I ask the dealer for extra stickers, paper floor mats, etc.

I have an awsome dealer, I don't care to advertise for them.:rocker:

I asked for a box of paper floor mats and, to my suprise, I noticed a box in the back when I got home. As for the stickers, umm... well... they can keep those. LOL!

RP :D

Thayer 03-05-2005 11:45 AM

The dealership that took delivery of my truck from Overseas Military Car Sales was super nice so I didn't say anything about thier sticker. It did come off easy as soon as I got home though.

RP - Great idea on the paper floor mats, I should have tried that.

04 RED LARIAT 03-05-2005 01:46 PM

Every time I go to my dealer I hit them up for paper mats. I have a surplus of them in the garage right now.

madtrucker 03-07-2005 10:17 PM

i just took off the death or serious injury crap on my visors. The first one i took off left alot of adhesive and the second big one on the driver visor left only half adhesive and the passenger door left none.Is there any way to get it off? I also took off the dealership sticker and it looks much better:rocker:

My thoughts EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!

toddh 03-08-2005 08:46 PM

I did some advertiseing for a dealership last year here on my truck. I put a sign in the back window for a few months that said

"I saved 4000 dollars by NOT buying this truck from Superior Ford"

Since they were a-holes the whole time I tryed to deal with them, and got 4g more trade-in at a dealer a few miles away:)
