Low Fuel Warning Data Discovered

I learned something this morning.

On my FX4, it is 34.5 miles from LOW FUEL warning on to dead stopped.

Too bad it was 34.52 miles to the pump (I made it to the station entrance at least, about 100 ft. short of salvation.)

My 27 gal tank holds 27.02 gallons from no fuel pickup to full.

Two people can push one of these things on level pavement.

[Edit:] It didn't look right when I looked at my mileage log, so I came to the realizationthat I had left out some driving in the above number. Total miles to empty was really 65.7. Still had to push the 0.02 miles.

Well, at least you know...Here's to hoping I never figure that out with my 35 gallon tank.

A bad scenario to discover but, none the less, good data for the rest of us. LOL!

Sorry bud... glad to know you were, at least, within walking distance of the pump.

LOL

You know I ran out of gas in my 81' jeep so many times I lost count it didn't have a gauge and the odometer didn't work. So, I chuckle every time I hear someone running out in a new vehicle.

I ran out one time in my dad's old 1973 F-350 460cid about 100 foot from the gas pump and somehow it coasted right up to the pump! Thank the Lord!

The only time I ever ran out of gas was at the top of my Dad's driveway. I was heading out to get some gas in my 72 VW Bug and did not make it past the driveway before she died. I coasted her back down the hill and walked back inside and had a beer!

You might want to change your fuel filter just to be on the safe side. There’s bound to be some crap on the bottom of the tank, even in a new truck.

I don't think we can depend on one or any "miles to empty" report...
The trucks all must be different.
The claimed 65.7 miles would be about 100 km's for me. I have the big tank in my FX4 and have run dry more than 3 times :o .

All times I have got less than 50 km's (with coasting). Only ONCE was I able to coast up to the pumps (or anywere near a gas station)

This summer, I ran out of gas in a 1962 Ford 5 yard dump truck, hauling 6 yards of black dirt, riding on the overloads......
ran out 1/2 mile from the station. just coasting down the road with 32,000 pounds of dirt. and enough boost in the brakes for one more stop. luckily i coasted into the station and made that last stop at the pump,......... but the station was closed, ......!!!!
but the owner was driving away and I flagged him down. and he reopen the station for me ( love living in a small town!!)

so got fuel, but the battery was weak. crank.......crrrrrannnnk.... craaaaaaaaaankkkk,.click click......... boom . !!!!!!!!! it fired !!!!!! man was that close.

made it home to dump the dirt

I figure if the Low warning kicks on I have got 1-1.5 gla of fuel left. With the great mileage of 14-18 ford gives us.........well, If I stick with that, then I hopefully wont run out.

I'm curious, I've got a 30 gallon tank on my screw...I wait until it says that I have less than 10 miles to go...Yet it only takes 23-24 gallons of gas. Anyone else have this issue?

Keep in mind that all the numbers that you're seeing on your dash are computer generated guesstimates; not actuals.

The numbers that you're seeing are designed to 'get you in the ballpark' with distances and such.

Hope that clarifies a bit...
