How do you stop the tailgate from squeaking?

I tried to do a search but nothing came up.

I had my window drivers window down today in the freezing cold going down the road trying to locate where I hear a Squeak I thought was coming from the the suspension somewhere. I don't think it's the suspention anymore, it's coming from the back, but I don't think it's coming from the back suspention. I believe it's the tailgate area?

I know a few guys in hear I remember reading about the same problem, but I never followed to close to how they fixed it since I didn't have a problem with it until now.

How do you fix that? I got some white greese spray, think that would work if I just sparyed the hinges, or do you guys have anything else you would use to fix it??

If I remember right, they just opened the tailgate and then closed it again. But made sure it was closed and latched on both sides. Just slam it shut to make sure and then take her out for a ride and see if that was the problem.

Mine squeaks too. I put a little white lithium grease at the points where it connects to the body. It helped some, but not a lot. I'll figure it out sooner or later.

There was a post earlier about the tailgate squeek. most owners shut it kinda hard, and the squeek went away. some had spray in liners and the thickness of material had prevented the latch, one side or the other, from locking securely. the liner had to be trimmed away so both latches "catch".
BTW lock your tailgate to prevent theft (post about that too)

yeah, make sure both sides are latched. with the tailgate assist, they're so light you don't slam them, so if you gently close it, only one side will latch and the other will shake around.

I notice a squeek from the back end of my truck when I hit rough roads. For a long time I couldn't pinpoint the problem.
I finally found out that it's actually my spare tire. If I give it a good hit with my palm, it makes the squeek.

Haven't tried to fix it yet, but you might want to see if that's the problem.
